Cowlick Barbershop in Brooklyn is a welcoming, community centered barbershop specializing in short hair for all genders. They will help you achieve a unique haircut by taking texture, growth patterns, maintenance and suitability into consideration. It's an inclusive and safe space with a clean and relaxed environment. They also plan on holding monthly "pay what you can" walk-in days where all proceeds are donated, allowing people of all income levels to receive a nice haircut while also showing generosity and helping the community. I've recently relocated to Brooklyn and was searching for a barbershop in my area that I could feel comfortable going to during the pandemic. I found Cowlick and sat down with an unruly mop of hair for my first haircut since quarantine started. The shop was extremely clean and they are taking all the precautions to make you feel safe. Vivian was able to decipher my ramblings of what I was looking for in my haircut and surpassed my expectations. Have definitely found my shop in Brooklyn and would recommend anyone to get their haircut here!!read more

Been in search for a solid barber for about 2 years now and finally found Vivian. Having a safe space for people to come as they are and get whatever haircut they want based on hair length is a concept that NEEDS to be adopted across the board. Cowlick streamlined that model, brought together talented barbers and here we have a place I will forever be loyal to during my time here in BK. I don't generally go to white hair stylists/barbers because I've never had a good haircut from those folks but I decided to try one more time at Cowlick. They have two people who are skilled at cutting all hair textures which was pretty exciting for me. I feel very comfortable at the shop and have been satisfied with my haircuts.read more

Vivian is an all-star, I highly recommend her and the rest of the Cowlick team for anyone looking for a high quality, safe haircut.With Covid hitting, I was looking for a new, Brooklyn-based barber to replace my Manhattan one, and researched several different options in the Park Slope neighborhood. Cowlick had by far the best online booking experience, and was very transparent and thorough about precautions they were taking to provide their customers a safe environment (contact tracing opt-in, limited bookings to decrease density, regular cleanings after client visits, health screenings, etc.).The owner, Vivian, is doing the best she can in spite of impossible circumstances, and is extremely thoughtful and caring about how she is treating both her customers and employees.I am sure many of you are like me and have pretty gnarly hair these days, and could use a solid grooming session. This is the safest haircut I was able to find, and would highly recommend to anyone else.read more

I had my hair cut by Leah, who did an incredible job! It was my first cut in probably over a year by a professional and it was quite a lovely experience. They also have a really cute dog that protects the shop ;) Lovely staff, great conversation and well priced - highly recommend!read more

Vivian has been cutting my hair since I moved to NYC 4 years ago. She is hands down the best barber I’ve had and is able to perfectly cut and style my short curly bob and baby bangs situation. It always looks effortless and I get compliments weekly on my hair. It causes a lot of anxiety thinking how I would find someone to do what she does if i ever leave the city. Do yourself a favor and book with her! She listens and cares and is an all around professional lovely person.read more

Had a haircut here a couple weeks back w Nyk/Kiki. Real talk it is probably the best haircut I’ve ever had. It feels great all the time, wake up hair, shower hair even looks good fresh out of a hat. The shop is really nice, good vibes and safety protocols are tight. Highly recommend this place.read more

I got an apprentice haircut by Nyk/Kiki earlier this afternoon and i haven't been able to keep myself from looking at my hair in every mirror I've come across today... I even told them during my appointment, I hate looking in the mirror!!! All of the other staff there were friendly and welcoming and made me feel safe in a clean environment, without feeling anxious or too self-conscious or anything. It was truly a great experience, is a wonderful haircut, and I'll definitely be coming back to get my hair cut here again!read more

So pleased with my cut- especially the beard trim! Like many beards, mine has a spot where it grows weird, so I personally never knew how to wear it shorter. Lex solved the mystery and I feel super good wearing it short now! They're good at explaining too, so I know how to keep it shaped, though I'm excited to come back for a cut and trim soon :)Also, I just really love the dang atmosphere!read more

Vivian is one of the best barber's I've come across in NYC/Brooklyn. No one can compare! Ever since meeting Vivian, I've followed her to get my cuts cause no one else gets it right. She can do a scissor cut and do a perfect fade, which is hard on my thin, Asian hair. Vivian is also just super friendly, hardworking, and a kind human. I have been looking for a slightly upscale but not ridiculous barbershop for a while. I don't have an overly complicated haircut (pretty basic short men's haircut), but I definitely notice the difference when someone takes the time to do a quality cut rather than just running clippers over the thing and moving on. Smokey was awesome and very attentive. They took the time to ask me what I was looking for, make suggestions, and let me know what they were doing and what they were thinking. I left really happy with my cut/style. In addition, it's an extremely welcoming vibe, and everyone was extremely friendly. Will definitely be going back.read more

My experience overall was pretty good. My barber was friendly and the shop appeared clean and well run. I paid $45 plus gratuity for a short, semi-undercut style from one of the apprentice barbers. A cut from someone else would have been $55 plus gratuity. Overall my experience was fine, but not something I couldn’t get elsewhere (for less). Excellent concept and branding, slightly above average execution on the cut. For some reason they’ve chosen to accept credit cards as payment, but not for gratuity, which made for an awkward exchange at the end.read more

Vivian is a perfectionist, artist, and dedicated to her community -- which is the perfect combination for giving whoever sits in her chair the haircut of their dreams. This not even an exaggeration. Been going to Vivian for 5 years now and she has never disappointed. Vivian is also a great conversationalist. So basically going to Cowlick is like going to your favorite local bar. Marty (her adorable dog) is also there giving free tail wags and swag in abundance. Vivian has become one of my favorite people since we first met in Williamsburg 5-ish years ago and I awkwardly asked to hang out. Since then, I’ve followed her around — from Brooklyn to Philly and back to Brooklyn — because she’s the best human being and barber I’ve ever come across. We’ve been on a hair (and life!) journey together, and I can always trust her to make me look and feel my absolute best.True story: Vivian has been present for my entire relationship with my now-husband, from dreaming about the possibility of him to our marriage.
