Description
Blue & Black is a barbershop and apothecary in a chill South Brooklyn setting. They have 6 barber chairs in a 900 square-feet spacious area with subtle cool decor that is noticeably distinct from your standard family barber shop. It's a nice and contemporary zen-like atmosphere, plus they'll offer a free beer or coffee while you wait, and have quality products available for sale. Blue & Black is a safe environment, with multiple Covid-19 precautions; however, during this time they are only providing haircuts and are cashless.

Great atmosphere with beer from Other Half brewery, steltzer, or coffee available while you wait. Nicholas Martin is my go to guy, but everyone is great and seem to get along well. They generally play pretty good music which doesn't hurt either.read more

Made a mistake scheduling a haircut somewhere else and needed a haircut day of. Made my way to Blue&Black, got Doug, and was absolutely blown away by how fantastic he was. He was really diligent about making my hair look good and making sure I got what I wanted. (I got a mid-fade.)Ambience was nice.Afterwards I went over to my friend’s place. Usual compliments. But it was brought up multiple times through the night. Like I don’t think I’ve ever gotten that many compliments. Finally had an opportunity to look in the mirror no mask and was VERY pleased.Doug’s haircuts are absolutely gas. Best I’ve ever had.read more

I moved to New York in June and knew finding a barber was going to be a challenge. Thankfully, I walked out of Blue&Black with one of the best haircuts I’ve ever gotten! Not only is the atmosphere welcoming, but everyone I’ve interacted there is very friendly and know what they are doing.They do an amazing job at making you feel safe during these Covid times and I really appreciate that.My barber is Ryan Alexander and I seriously don’t think I can go to any other barber ever again. He knew what to do with my hair, he focused and dedicated his attention to making me feel comfortable, and you can tell he loves what he does. Also, we have good conversations!It can be a bit pricey, but for a good haircut, you can’t beat Blue&Black. Believe me, I’ve tried going somewhere else because it was slightly cheaper and it was absolutely not the same experience.read more

Expected a little more attention to detail, and a better quality cut. Just had to clean up around the ears , but I had mentioned I was growing things out and hadn’t had a cut in a couple months.The result was something that just look for choppy, couple of areas where it’s crooked, and I had to ask them to check the length on the top explicitly as they were ready to send me on my way after trimming the sides.Yes, I’m growing it out, but I wanted to keep things as neat as Possible.All in all, it wasn’t terrible, but an expensive lesson that I want to take a chance on a second time.read more

I couldn't say enough great things about getting to have my hair cut by Allie Asghar. I've relied on her to help me through growing out my hair for a few years now and she's gone well beyond just cutting my hair by teaching me how to best care for it and always making me feel so comfortable with how my hair looks when I'm leaving. Which is a wonderful relief with all the nervousness people share in how they look immediately after haircuts. She makes you look forward to your hair cut with how funny she is and I can happily tell everyone that I have a great barber whenever I get compliments on my hair. The food is delicious but the portions are small I spent $100 in order to orders of plants with felonies along with some cocktails by myself I would not really recommend it for the portions but I would recommend it all the delicious food that they serve if you have a light eater is perfect for you but I like fried clams with bellies and I like a lot of themread more

Honestly was walking around this past Saturday and found Blue & Black. Walked in to make an appointment & luckily they had availability. Initially was worried since I’ve had little to moderate success w/ Barbershops outside my neighborhood but needed a trim before a major event this coming week.Hands down the Barber went above initial expectations. I haven’t had this clean of a Fade in awhile. Leeora was detailed as well as personable. Since my long time Barber recently moved to Miami, I’ll be headed to Blue & Black moving forward.read more

I always get my haircuts here and really love the place. It’s not cheap, but the consistently good cuts speak for themselves. I usually go to Allison (who is wonderful and a big horror movie buff), but last time Chris, new guy, cut my hair and blew me away with how detailed he was. Maybe the best fade I ever had. Also, the place has a keg of Other Half Beer, so that definitely helps.read more

I don't understand why this place is so busy. Twice I have gotten another haircut soon after getting a cut I didn't like here. All haircuts seem to require a lot of product in order to not look pretty bad the next day. I really don't get why anyone would pay a ton of money to then need to spend a ton of money on products to make their haircut look okay after the haircut they just spent a ton of... whatever. This is just not a $65 haircut. Every time I go in with the same stylist, I have to remind them what I want, and pull up photos of past haircuts. There are always spots missing or mishapen that I notice and have to correct myself after I leave. A nice space and friendly people but actual quality is meh.read more
