I am so happy that I found Shantl Barbershop. This is a hidden gem in the UES. The Owner, Alex, is the utmost professional, friendly, and really takes his time to give every customer that walks in his shop a quality haircut.Complimentary wash of the hair with the purchase of a haircut is a nice touch as well.Alex’s haircuts are extremely affordable too compared to other NYC Barbershops. Only $30. Walk-ins accepted.I’ve only been seeing Alex for the last few months, however I do wish I found this NYC Secret a bit sooner. Highly Recommend. 5 Stars.read more

Decently surprised. Thought I was in for a ride but actually got a pretty decent haircut. My barber didn't give me what I asked for (a light trim) but did give a good haircut despite this fact.

Best haircut I’ve had in years.I hadn’t gotten a haircut since February due to COVID concerns, and decided to check out Shantl after seeing so many positive ratings and reviews.I was not disappointed. Not only did the shop feel safe, but Alex gave me a terrific haircut, listening to my request and making suggestions of his own. Went to them for a traditional straight razor shave to finally get rid of my quarantine beard. It was an amazing experience! The barber gave me a close shave and even ended the experience with a Turkish head massage. Definitely worth the price for such a rare treat.read more

This is by far the best barbershop I have ever been to. I'm pretty picky when it comes to who cuts my hair, but I have no problem with anyone cutting my hair because I know it will be done exactly how I want it and exactly the way it should be cut best for my look. Moving to a new place always brings new challenges. One of them is finding somewhere you can trust to cut your hair. I checked out this shop after seeing the reviews online and called ahead to ensure they were taking people. Alex confirmed an appointment for a time just a few minutes in the future. On arrival Alex confirmed it was me who called before and showed me where I could wait for the 2 minutes he needed to finish up his previous customer. From listening to Alex talk to his current customer as well as others that popped in, it was clear that Alex has a connection and cares about all of his customers who he is all familiar with. Alex's connection with his customers truly shows how much he cares about them and makes an effort to know them and seems like a part of the community. He truly is a friendly guy, even to myself whom he just met. He gave a great professional cut which I was very happy with and made sure it was what I wanted. My boyfriend just went here tonight for a haircut and they did a wonderful job!!! He hasn’t had a cut in over a year (so it was super long, no remanence of his normal cut) and they did a fantastic job with his cut - sleek, just the right length on the sides and top, and clean lines on his neck and the sides. Oksana is an artist. I have very Curly, thick and poofy hair, so I keep it short. Never knew what to do with it. Went to many barbers in the area in the last few months since I wanted to figure out how to cut it before my wedding. This was by far the best experience and best haircut I have ever gotten in my life. I didn't ask for anything specific - just told her I don't know what to do with my hair. I just moved to the UES from Canada and I found this place based on the amount of phenomenal reviews... I have to say, even though I expected them to be good, it still blew me away. Alex was super friendly, and extremely good. I wasn't totally sure what I wanted to do, so I just showed him a picture and said "something like that?" 30 mins later, I had a hair cut BETTER than the picture of the movie star I showed him. Despite nearly 2 years on the UES, I only discovered Alex’s talents towards the end of my time here. Unfortunate, because Alex gave me the best fade I’ve ever received. I had come to him several times before for beard trims, and he always told me I should give a haircut a try. I’m glad I finally did as I discovered my new personal benchmark for haircuts. Alex does a great job of running my favorite barber shop in the Upper East Side. I tried a couple different spots when I first moved here and for the last year have only gotten my hair cut here because it simply is a cut above the rest. His memory is superb, he never has to ask me what type of style I am going for when I sit down in the chair, since he remembers my cut and matches it perfectly each time.
