Nic Grooming Barbershop was born from three generations of Philadelphia barbers. The Berardi men, took notice of the lack of men’s specialty barber shops in Philadelphia. They used their expertise in men’s haircutting to create the ultimate ‘old school’ barbershop experience in Center City Philadelphia. Nic Grooming is the ultimate blend of old-school craftsmanship and modern technology. It provides a premier barbershop experience and offers haircuts, straight razor shaves, and color blending at $50 each.

i have gone here for years and am not coming back. i have worked with the first come, first serve policy—but clearly there are favorites.on a busy friday i waited over 45 minutes and was next in line. in the time i entered another man came in and out. when i should have been called, he was, and i noticed he just wrote an arrow over my name. the staff just went along with it, and within minutes it became clear that he was friends with two of the barbers.a sat for several minutes weighing if i should say something, and i shouldn’t have been in that situation. i can pay $50 for a haircut somewhere else at a place that will actually respect me and my time.read more

Nic Grooming is my go to spot in Philly. The atmosphere is exactly what you want for a cut in the city: friendly stylists, funky atmosphere, and the freedom to enjoy a brew before your cut. Tola has cut my hair multiple times and always does an amazing cut. Any stylist I’ve had here is always beyond friendly and leaves you with a cut you’ll be happy to walk outside to show off.read more

When I sat down in the chair after a wash, Stephan asked me what we were doing that day. First thing out of my mouth was, “I’m growing my hair out.” Second thing was, “I really like how it’s starting to weigh itself down.” Third thing was, “I want to keep as much of the length as we can, but I wanna take some bulk out of the back and sides. Just a quick cleanup.” Stephan did not follow ANY of these simple instructions. He visibly shrugged off my suggestions and concerns, and proceeded to cut at LEAST an inch and a half off of every hair on my head.I now have a standard, short men’s cut with slightly long, uneven bangs that don’t blend well into the sides of my head. Had to flip my part to the other side to make it look alright. I specifically said the back should be shorter because I’ll have a mullet in three weeks if it gets a head start, and he just disregarded what I wanted entirely. He was silent for the entire process, which is usually fine, but he didn’t care to ask ANY questions about what his client wanted and just did a variation of the same popular cut he’s probably done a million times.If you don’t feel comfortable cutting longer hair, you shouldn’t. Plain and simple. It’s not necessarily a BAD haircut, but it’s nothing even remotely close to what I described. Borderline unprofessional. So disappointed.read more

Turned away 45 minutes before posted closing time of 6pm when there were 2 barbers and only one person in the waiting area. For a walk-in only business, this isn't reasonable. If you need a haircut after work, don't bother risking having your time wasted.Edit for owner's reply: You're correct that I was told that I could walk 8 blocks for the chance to maybe not be turned away at one of your other locations. I've been to you a few times and gotten haircuts that were OK, which is why it's a 2-star. This also isn't the first time I've been turned away minutes after 5PM with an empty or nearly empty waiting area. I think the review and rating stand as they are. If a customer takes off work mid-day, they'll get a decent experience - 4-stars. If they try to come immediately after work well before close, it's a roll of the dice. 2-stars for after work.If I were Nic Grooming, I'd just edit my hours to be more realistic by posting a 5pm close. Then you're 4-star across the board.read more

Just moved in to the city back recently, I had a couple of cuts around to find my spot wasn’t happy about either of them. It’s 2022 get an online system so customers can book appointments online. Writing your name on a board and waiting at least an hour to get a haircut doesn’t work for people.Service is hot or miss. Some barbers are great some are terrible. If there was a system to book with your preferred barber I would keep coming back.read more

I've been a regular at Nic Grooming for the last few years - coming in every ~5 weeks for a haircut. Unfortunately, I got a very bad haircut today. The haircut looks bad, and is uneven and lumpy, but other basics were skipped or ignored:The man who cut my hair:- Did not wash my hair- Did not trim my sideburns (or even them out, or do anything)- Didn't even out the back, offer squared or rounded, or even offer to show the back- Didn't blow dry or brush any hair off of my head, ears, neck or shirt at the end of the haircut, leaving me covered in cut hair.This was a very bad haircut for $50. Sad to see this place isn't what it used to be.read more

I’ve been going to Nic’s Grooming for almost 6 months pre quarantine and I keep going back, even with the mask on. Great atmosphere and decor. My barber Tola gave me the best tips on how to properly care for my hair (when I showed up one day with it bleached out) and mentioned his preferred products and grooming methods to make it look more natural. He always does it right the first time and takes his time on making sure the cut will be worth the money and he won’t have to see you for another cut in a month in a half. (At least for me)When you write you name on the board for a walk-in make sure to ask for Tola. Won’t disappoint.read more

With the understanding that Covid-19 can cause discomfort among service employees such as barbers, I still expected the person giving me a cut to not act worried and force me to have a mask throughout my cut (causing hair to fall on my mask and my cut to look imbalanced). I did come here during the first week barbers opened up in philly so I didn’t know any better, however now I know that other barbers in the region who aren’t charging $50 for a basic cut aren’t forcing these kind of requirements. Today was my third time visiting the Pine St location. My first time was on a Monday evening about two months ago, my second on a Wednesday and today I returned on a Monday around 2pm because I assumed it would not be a long wait.I was half right as I walked in to three customers getting cut and I was the sole person waiting. I thought I understood the rules, 1. Write your name 2. Get a drink 3. Wait for name to be called (in order based on blackboard). Two of the stylists finished at the same time and I was hoping to get a cut from the stylist who came back in, but she proceeded to call the person after me. Obviously it was not a big deal to bring it to her attention, but I was disappointed because it seemed that I was skipped for a customer that she knew and had cut before.Being new to the area I like the shop and want to become a regular customer just like the guy (Brett) I was skipped for but it’s hard when no appointments are taken and a first come first served policy isn’t the norm as stated. I will continue to come here for my cut but wanted to voice my brief frustration. I was in desperate need of a hair cut and most place are closed Sundays. I walked in, wrote my name on the chalkboard, and sat down to take in the decor. Nic has a super warm atmosphere with lots of wooden features that makes you feel at home. The staff is very nice and laid back; which I enjoyed since trying out new barber shops can be a nerve racking experience. My stylist, Anastasia, did an amazing job. She gave the me the exact cut I was looking for and was even able to correct some mistakes my last barber made. The only thing better than the hair cut was the conversation I got to have with her. She very personable and a pleasure to talk to. Make sure to bring a cash for tip if you plan on paying by card (you cannot tip on the credit card).read more

Uneven experiences. I've gone to both this place and the other location closer to Rittenhouse. My latest cut was at this pine street location, and the guy went straight for the buzzer and cut way too short on first pass. He should have asked more if he wasn't sure.
