Description
The Black Comb specializes in straight razor shaves and a variety of cuts from the timeless traditional to the trendy and modern. High 'n tights, skin fades, pompadours and side parts, loose and longer styles. Each haircut comes with a hot lather neck shave. You can also get a hot lather face shave or beard trim. While other barbershops rely on clippers, The Black Comb takes pride in using the straight razor and scissors. Additionally, you can enjoy a free beer while you get your haircut.

Excellent! I've been getting my hair cut at the Black Comb for the last couple of years and have never been disappointed. I look forward to getting there a few minutes early and enjoying a beer from the fridge and chatting. A few times my regular (Jonathan) has had a full schedule and I've scheduled with another, and I've always been pleased. These are quality cutters, but also personable, friendly, and laid-back guys. I just moved to Lancaster from Boston, and had a regular barber that I was close with so I was pretty nervous going to a new place. The Black Comb employees are super welcoming, professional, and talented. Eddie took great care of my beard, which I am sensitive about cutting! Looking forward to my next cut-- maybe I'll take them up on the offer of a beer from their fridge this time. Punks of all ages will feel at home here amongst the Black Flag memoribilia and classic tattoo flashes, but you're getting a PROFESSIONAL hair cut. Book early and often!!!read more

Best barber shop ever. Every one will cut a mean head of hair. Convenient to schedule online. Great atmosphere. Ample parking on street and at nearby garage. Without a question the best barber shop in town. Every seat was filled because the barbers genuinely love their craft and no one wants a day off. I've had a great experience every time I've gone to the Black Comb. The only reason I couldn't rate it 5 stars is that it is nearly impossible to get an appointment without planning a month in advance. I recognize that is my own problem ... John makes it a point to know his clients, I swear he knows 99% of his clients by their first name. Parking near the shop is easy, a great location downtown. Highly recommended. I may be a little biased bc this is one of the barbershops I’ve ever been to in Lancaster but it’s the best. All of the barbers are extremely talented and care about their clients. You are always greeted when you walk in the door and receive a goodbye when you leave. They also offer a complimentary beer from Lancaster Brewing Company or a craft soda. The atmosphere is always great. Just make sure you book weeks before your appointment because they are a hot commodity.read more

So I am new to the area and read good reviews about the place. I live in Reading and had some nearby errands to run so made an appointment for 2:15 on a Saturday. Was a little late because the parking is not entirely straightforward if you're not familiar with Lancaster.My barber called me over and we talked about what I was looking for and he generally delivered. I tried to engage with him a bit as I saw almost every one else in convo with his barber, but perhaps he was just tired, but he didn't say a word for the entire service.To top it off, I saw another barber walk a customer over to the fridge where they both pulled out beverages. I knew that this was something the place is known for, but once again, my barber didn't say anything to me about it. I helped myself to a root beer and headed out, without a good bye from my barber. Yes, he was already on to the next customer, but that sort of basic situational awareness to pop your head up and say good bye is what keeps a first-time customer from becoming a last-time customer.Funny thing is that whichever barber was near the door told me good bye as I was putting my coat on. He might have been the same one that said hello when I arrived. Guess I should have picked him! I suspect my experience would have been different. Since it wasn't, I won't be coming back. $40 + tip is a lot to pay for an average experience.read more

It was pretty much the opposite of my first experience.I was asked to help myself to a drink while he finished up with his existing client. We chatted amiably for a good part of the cut. Great modern barbershop. Tikka provides an amazing cut for myself and my son. You can only book through an app, but it does make it convenient to see all open times. Wish could have some later appointments, but they do offer 6pm as their last cuts of the day. Being downtown requires a little extra effort to park, but not too hard between street parking or Orange/Prince garage.You get what you pay for, and it is truly worth it to go to any of these guys.
