Description
Cotter Barber on Manhattan Ave is a full service barbershop, which is also a coffee shop. An unique and interesting combination. They specialize in classic haircuts and straight razor shaves. Great hospitality, and you can even get a complimentary coffee with your haircut. Cool looking place with a motorcycle hanging on the wall as you walk in, and some outdoor seating in the back.

Cotter made sure to keep the place clean, open, breezy, and provide an excellent 1:1 experience with my barber, given the current COVID conditions at the time of writing. I'd gone about five months without a haircut and figured that a nice private session at a slow time wouldn't be too high risk. The barber (Kevin) made me feel safe and taken care of. The haircut went well and the excellent coffee on my way out the door made for a pleasant cap to the whole trip. I'd recommend these guys.read more

First time coming here. Got an excellent cut by Joe, who was thorough and communicative throughout the process. Shop is maintaining COVID safety precautions and doing it's best given the situation. Will definitely be going back. Happy to have found a new spot in the neighborhood.read more

It’s 40 minutes door to door from my West Village apartment to Cotter Barber, and I happily make the trek every 4 weeks to get a cut from Evan. He is hands down the best barber in NYC. I have a tough head of hair to cut, and he gets it right every time.The barber shop is nice and clean. The people are friendly, and the coffee is fantastic. Great place to get a great cut.read more

Just get an appointment with Joe and thank me later. I always go to Joe to get my haircut and I never have to worry about it being messed up or not just how I like it. The man knows what he's doing and will work with you to get your hair exactly how you want it. I know I can come in and get a perfect haircut every time. If you want a fade, there's no reason to go anywhere else in NYC.read more

This is a great place to get a haircut. It is not cheap, but the staff are very courteous and they do an excellent job. I’m very happy with my latest haircut and plan on going back to Cotter for the next one.read more

Cotter is the best spot to get your haircut. Everyone is super friendly and the shop is super clean. I have a difficult head of hair to cut and Evan always gives me an amazing haircut. He has great vision for what will look best with your hair. Highly recommend.read more

Everything about this place is delightful. good coffee and espresso drinks. friendly vibes and staff. Just get ready to have cash and a lot of it. I understand the price for an above average haircut, but it doesn't mean I have to like paying that much.read more

I know a barber shop is typically for men, but if you have a pixie cut and know your hair well, Adelbert (I think thats how you spell his name) listens incredibly well and picks up quick the sense of what your hair does. I grew my hair out during the pandemic, but wow did he do such a great job giving me back my really short pixie. Not to mention what a great conversation! Felt extremely comfortable. Don’t let your gender hold you back; if you have short hair, I would say go here.read more

Finding a barber in a new neighborhood is a PAIN. I'm glad i found Kris, Joe and Cotter Barber. I am growing out my hair and went to Kris about a month ago to get the ends taken off. He ended up giving me a cut and let my hair grow in a bit more natural. Long live the mullet. He was a cool dude. I also went in today to get a little beard trim before an event I had tonight with Joe. He also did a great job even with the simple stuff I asking for. Will be back when I need my next bear trim and haircut. Beard trim was also real relaxing, might take some friends there when they visit to get us looking right.read more

Pros: Great cuts, everytime! (I go to Chris). Loving the hot towel and non-sophomoric conversation (which can be a problem at many other barbers).Cons: Cash only (I know it can be tough for small businesses, but I'd happily pay more for the convenience); online booking doesn't always work (but calling does!)read more

Usually visit the one on Graham, tried this location for a change. Just as professional, pleasant, and courteous. Haven’t had my hair cut anywhere else since I moved to NYC two years ago. 👌👌

Joe from Cotter Barber is the best barber I’ve ever had by far. No hair left out of place and always very meticulous about his cuts. First time I ever went, I asked for his suggestion on a new style and I’ve been rocking the same style ever since. Been going for a year now and my opinion has not changed. JAY is a rockstar. I popped in and needed a fade and hair cut (my last barber cut my hair waaaaaaay too short on top last time so it grew in like a monkey). Stopped by this morning, met Mike, and was treated to good old fashioned hospitality and a couple shots of really high quality espresso. The gesture of talking coffee and getting sent home with complimentary coffee really made an impression on me.Came back later today after work for a haircut. Robert did the honors and I was very pleased by the quality of the cut. His attention to detail and gentle touch stood out to me.The owner made a kind gesture to invite me to the holiday party, which I might just accept.The haircut was excellent. Expensive, but the overall experience was very welcoming and made me feel like the good neighbor that I am.In summary, nice things cost money. While I’m not crazy about the amount paid, (55 plus tip) I really do feel that I received a premium quality service backed by truly genuine intentions. I left feeling better physically, mentally, and emotionally.It felt like treat to myself. Nice job team! I might drag haircuts an extra week in the future to keep costs more manageable, but overall I look forward to returning and becoming a regular.read more

Is it a barber shop? Is it a coffee shop? It’s both. I got a coffee and a tea from there and it was excellent. The americano was roasty and the Earl Grey was sweet and clearly high quality. Service was excellent too. I can’t speak to the quality of the haircut, but there were definitely people there getting a trim..and they looked better when they were leaving.read more

I’ve came here a few haircuts now, but my last two visits I’ve had Artem cut my hair. By far the very best barber I’ve ever had. Artem takes his time and works with precisions and artistry. All around wonderful experience and exactly the haircut I was looking for (from Doug). Great communication, sharp scissors, very light touch with a straight razor. Espresso was better than any I’ve had in the neighborhood recently. Music was fun. Despite having some of the trappings of a to-cool-for-school old timey hipster barbershop, everyone was super nice, really engaging, and fun to hang out with. I’ll certainly be back and highly recommend Cotter.read more
