I highly recommend seeing Arthur. I'd get inconsistent results at other barber shops, but Arthur nails it every time and I haven't looked back. He has great attention to detail and makes good suggestions that have made my hair more manageable. You can book online at this place.read more

Just move in from NJ. Called today and the NICEST guy told me to come in and see Boris. You see...I’m a girl who shaved her head to see how white haired I am at 56 - not enough! I came from out of state was worried about finding a great barber. I got a hair cut with Arthur ( the barber with the glasses). He took his time understanding what i wanted and understanding what kind of job I do. I was amazed at the level of professionalism and creativity. before the pandemic, i went to a guy in the east village every 2 weeks. it’s totally out of my way, but worth it for the haircut. now it looks like he won’t be reopening, or not anytime soon, so i needed to find someone new. i read some reviews and finally chose the chelsea gardens barber shop. i randomly chose arthur to cut my hair using their online appointment system and i’m very happy i did! he gave me the best haircut i’ve had in a very long time - and this was his first time cutting my hair! my cut is simple so i expect anyone can do it reasonably well but arthur took it to a new level. i’m really happy with how i look and feel. the shop is clean and has a friendly vibe. i highly recommend seeing arthur for your haircut - he’ll be my new go-to guy! - but i imagine you can’t go wrong with anyone here.read more

Rudy's been cutting my hair since forever and it's impossible to praise him too much. He's knowledgeable, highly skilled, courteous, efficient, and has a great sense of style that he fine-tunes to suit each client. Being back at CHELSEA GARDENS BARBER after a 4 month absence I was thrilled to see RUDY back in his place of business. I longed to see him and make sure he was well and he was and to then wrk his barber-magic and tame my hair; he did giving me the best fade into a top mild mohawk and i felt like a star. Rudy and his team make everyone feel like rock stars; they know their craft as barbers well and it shows on all the heads which walk out proudly not to mention the grin on our/ their faces. Took a trip to NYC and decided to get a haircut while I was there. Part of me just wanted to see how the vibe of a NYC barbershop differed from where I live. I got a quick, quality haircut from a guy named Mike ( at least that is what the name tag said on the barber stand I was at). I always explain my cut using terminology that my barbers use, but it turns out that not all barbers use the same terminology. He took the time to make sure he understood what I was looking to do. The only thing that they didn't do here which my barber at home does , is the hot lather neck/sideburn straight blade shave. It always cleans things up nice and makes for a good end to the haircut, but maybe this just isn't being done because of difficulty doing it with a mask on? Regardless, I'm glad I stopped in. Arthur did an amazing scissor cut for me. I am from out of town and was worried that they wouldn't know how to cut my hair. He took his time talked the cut through with me and really understood what I wanted. This will be my barbershop any time I come to NYC from now on. The skin fade he did for me on the sid is on fire.It was super easy I booked online and he took me on time. Everyone was wearing a mask and very friendly. I’ve been getting my hair cut at Chelsea Gardens Barbershop for a while now and I can’t say enough good things about the place. I’ve always gotten a good haircut by several of the barbers there and I’m currently going to Rudy. The first time he cut my hair, I had already been wearing it a certain way for a while and I told him to give me the usual. He immediately threw out a suggestion that he do a skin fade on the sides and back and my first impulse was to say no but he said trust me, it’s going to look great. I decided to go with it since I always appreciate when a barber offers their own opinion/vision as to how they see your hair instead of just giving you what you ask for. With his suggestions, which included a couple of other tweaks, Rudy improved upon my current hairstyle and it looks better than ever. And with short hair, precision is everything and Rudy’s haircuts are extremely precise and cut very evenly. The prices can’t be beat and all the barbers are very friendly. I’ve been going here and seeing Rudy for 7 years. Needless to say, he’s my guy! He always gives excellent cuts and is very accommodating to make sure you look just the ways you want. He is well aware of current style trends, and run his business with a relaxed friendly neighborhood feel. This place is a little rough around the edges old New York City barber shop. I normally would go to a little more of a manicured shop but one day I stumbled in for a one time haircut from Junior. His haircut was so good, I drove back a second time from the upper west side to see Junior again for a second time and I definitely will be returning for a third. I have been coming here for the past 10 years and I will continue coming here as long as I can. I usually ask for Rudy, and although it's best to set up an appointment with him, he can take walk-ins too and will let you know how long of a wait he has (just note if you come too late he might be fully booked until the end of the day, so the earlier the better). However, some of the other guys have taken care of me, too, and all did a fantastic job. The whole team here is great! You just really can't go wrong at Chelsea Gardens.read more

This review is long overdue. I’ve been getting my haircut at Chelsea Gardens Barbers for over a year and have never not left feeling great. While I love a good massage, there’s nothing better than a haircut and a hot shave and nobody does it better than Junior. He is truly a master barber and just an all around nice human. Even though he’s been giving me the same haircut for a year, he always asks if I want the “usual” or if I want to change anything up. The hot shave is so worth the add on. You deserve it! Came here today for the first time, very satisfied. I showed Rudy a picture of what I wanted and he affirmed me that he could do it. Rudy talked me through the important steps and asked for my input and didn’t mind bringing me a mirror each time since I didn’t have my glasses with me. Haircut came out just as I wanted. Price was $27 which is pricey but worth it for me since I haven’t been satisfied with a haircut in a very long time. I also understand that the business needs to stay afloat somehow. Found this place through Strands for Trans! This was my first time in a barber shop. The salons I go to are afraid to cut short and never give me what I want. But Joe did a wonderful job and walked me through different suggestions for a great price. I was a bit intimidated at first glance but he was very friendly.
