The nicest haircut I've had in a long time. I grew my hair long and my previous barber screwed it up, so it's been a while. The lengthy hair is still a decent length, and the barber did an excellent job. It's not too short, somewhat groomed, and flowing but doesn't fall in your eyes like it used to. I've been coming to B&H Barber Shop since it opened and have consistently gotten the best haircuts of my life here. I moved to the mid-west over two years ago and make it a point to get a cut and beard trim any time I come back to the east coast - I plan my flights around it because they're that good.When I started I had no idea what to do with my hair and had just grown a beard for the first time - they helped me pick a style and look I liked and killed it on the execution. Over the years they've helped me tweak my cut and try out new variations - they always look great. They're also great at correcting your mistakes - I accidentally shaved off more beard than I meant on my beard line and they were able to trim my beard with guidelines so I can easily fix it myself as it grows in - while still providing a good looking cut - you wouldn't notice if I didn't bring it up to you myself.I can't recommend enough that you get your hair and beard done here - they're amazing.read more

The fact that there are so few chains, restaurants, and barbershops in NYC is something I particularly admire. Although I've tried most of them, I have to say that my experience with B&H was exceptional. Along with a fantastic haircut, the proprietor was very polite and offered amazing service. The vibe most barbershops generate when you walk in is my biggest complaint. Everyone is engrossed in their own talks, nobody says hello, and you have no idea what sequence you're in. When you finally ask after a time, you're told that they only take appointments. Not at B&H, where I was greeted promptly and given a precise wait time estimate. So i thought I had been getting a decent haircut until I was schooled by Joseph. He took the time to show me where the last Barber had made mistakes and asked me each step exactly how I wanted my hair cut. He isn't just a barber, he is an Artist that cares greatly for his craft. I've been searching for the right barber since mine retired about a year ago and it hasn't been easy but I think I finally found the right person. Also one of the least expensive places around. It’s important that I feel better after a haircut. And it’s the details that matter, the little hairs around the ear, the line up in the back, and no hairs sticking out on the side. Typically my cousin cuts my hair, but he was out of town this week and I had to go to a wedding (the 5th wedding this year! People need to slow it down; divorce rates are higher than ever). And I can’t afford to keep getting haircuts. But a friend recommended B&H to me so I decided to give it a try. Josef is extremely attentive to detail and cares deeply about providing a great experience for his customers. I have a masterful mustache. Like Dali, it twirls and moves in many directions. I rarely need to get it cut, but when I do, my instructions are extremely specific. Barbershops are like apples. And there are some bad apples out there. You gotta feel them out, and you do that by reading the reviews. Then you inspect them (looking at photos and the clients that come out before you). I've been coming here for almost half a year and always come out looking fresh. I have Asian hair that is thick, slightly wavy, and grows outwards, so it's not easy for barbers not used to that hair type to do fades. I live in Jersey City and tried a bunch of barbershops around the area. It either comes out bad or they take a long time to do the cut or it grows out weird after a few days. Since I moved into this house a few of years ago, I've been going to the other barber in my former neighbourhood out of devotion. Sadly, he shut down because of the epidemic, so I finally got to experience B&H. The barbers here are professional and attentive, and the store is quite clean. When I told my barber what I wanted, I could tell he was really paying attention. My main issue with most barbershops is the unwelcoming atmosphere they create when you enter. You don't know what order you're in, no one says hello, and everyone is preoccupied with their own conversations. I’ve been coming here for a couple months and have been to over 10 barbershops in the East Village before this one. I can honestly say I think I’ve found the one. Each haircut has been sooolid. I don’t have to wait a long time, walk-in, though once I pick my barber I think I’ll star making appointments. All barbers have been really great so far, no complaints. My coworker recommended B&H to me after I saw his haircut on a Friday night, and I knew I was stopping by this place. It’s surprisingly nice, clean, bright barbershop and has nice trees/plants in the front. I really like how I was greeted right away and told a wait time. I have been going to Josef for nearly 15 years now m. I just recently went there and he cut off about 6 inches of hair. I could go to salons and higher end barber shops with a bunch of cool tattooed guys with peaky blinder haircuts but Josef is a better price and honest and humble when it comes to figuring out how you want your hair to look. I often bring him reference images and if he doesn’t think it’s going to look good on me he suggests other options. For the past two years, I've been growing my hair out. I had previously visited B&H, so returning with two years' worth of growth was a true reunion. I can't stress enough that B&H Barbershop is your best option in the neighbourhood. I've gone to enough barbers in the area to know which one is the best. It's inexpensive, and they give better haircuts than some of the more upscale establishments. I really like this place and believe that any of their barbers will do a great job. Walking without an appointment at around 2p on a Tuesday. Casual day with normal volume. First time here I was taking in by Steve. I told him what I wanted and he blended me perfectly. Faded with a blend, shaped me up nicely with scissors and machine. Steve did a better job than the guy I had almost 2 weeks ago. I will definitely be coming back to see him. Prices are marginal. $29 for the cut. We're living in a recession, no more $20 cuts unless if you go somewhere Brooklyn or the Bronx, well worth the money.read more

I just moved to New Jersey this week, so my farewell gift to Joseph is this review. He’s been my barber for about 6 years now and has never disappointed. We’ve established a really strong relationship and I looked forward to coming to this shop once every two weeks. It was a ritual for my that I’ll dearly miss, but Manhattan just isn’t the same anymore. Anytime I’m in the city, I’ll definitely pop in to say hi to the guys and get a trim if it’s that time of the month. This barbershop is one of the few reasons I didn’t want to leave. He’s an amazing barber turned friend, and I’ll miss this barbershop more than I miss his haircuts (JK). Just recently discovered this small barbershop walking through Alphabet City. It’s low-key on a side street and really feels like a great local spot to visit. I made an appointment and actually brought my roommate with me and we both were quickly seated. Both were very satisfied with the haircut we received. I’ve had Joseph cut my hair three times now, and I’ve been impressed each time. Joseph is a masterful barber. You will not be getting a cookie-cutter hair cut here. Everyone’s hair is different (head shape, thickness, hair pattern, etc.) and Joseph definitely takes this into account. He takes his time to make sure the cut is perfect each time. The consistency and the quality of the haircuts kept bringing me back to this shop even though I live 35 to 40 minutes away...not to mention, the price can’t be beat ($23 for a cut, $28 for cut/wash). If I lived closer, I’d frequent the shop more often. Would highly recommend.read more

I forgot the name of my barber but he’s in the last chair on the right side. He did an excellent job on my man mane and even trimmed my eyebrows and ear hair. I didn’t even know I had ear hair, how embarrassing. But overall 5 star experience. I can’t tell you how long and annoying it’s been looking for a decent haircut for a decent price in NYC. You’d imagine that the service would be top notch due to all the competition, but it seems like many barbers slack off because of all the clientele in the area. This barbershop really cares about the details. It’s not just in the haircut but all the little things about the shop. I love the plants in the front, the music playing, and the convo i have with my barbershop. They keep the place tidy and there’s always someone sweeping the hair away. What I love about living in the East Village is all the options. What I hate about East Village is all the options. It’s so much to sort through, so when I find a place I like I really stick with it. Fortunate to have found B&H on the first try. I read these reviews and I wasn’t disappointed. The highest praise for them is consistency. They’ve always given me best fades every time without fail. So i thought I had been getting a decent haircut until I was schooled by Joseph. He took the time to show me where the last Barber had made mistakes and asked me each step exactly how I wanted my hair cut. He isn't just a barber, he is an Artist that cares greatly for his craft. I've been searching for the right barber since mine retired about a year ago and it hasn't been easy but I think I finally found the right person. Also one of the least expensive places around. I was skeptical at first when I saw their low price, but the quality exceeded expectations. $20 is hard to find in NYC and if it is that low, it’s typically inexperienced barbers trying to earn their stripes. Many times I’ve left barbershops with shoulders slumped, feeling bummed out about the way I look. I have a particularly large head and most barbers never seem to be able to accommodate or recommend something that will look good on me. Josef (who I learned is the owner), was able to look at my head, asked a couple questions and did his magic. He found a shape that fit my head really well after many barbers had failed. There’s an innate talent and eye that can’t be replicated. These guys understand their craft to great depth and the way they talk to each other, I can tell their always learning and staying on the top of their game. Walked in today and was seated immediately. The shop itself is nice. I recently moved to NY and looking for a new barber. I came in to try it out because there was a Yelp coupon. I really wanted to have a good experience as it's convenient to my workplace on the LES and others have written great things. Met Joseph, the owner who was welcoming. I'm not sure who my barber was; he didn't introduce himself but I know some don't. I got a fade, and I told him I wanted to leave some length/weight on the sides as it blended into the top. The last barber cut my hair too short too high up on the fade and it grew out poorly (stiff Asian hair so it sticks out as it grows). He told me right out that he didn't understand what I was describing. I tried to describe again what I meant. He didn't ask any follow up questions, he just said that he'd blend it. I think it may have been a language barrier issue. The cut turned out fine but it was not what I was describing which is pretty important when you're going to the barber. Or, at least being able to effectively communicate. Also, their card machine was broken. I understand technical issues happen but I had to take out cash at their ATM. They have rave reviews so maybe go for Joseph or bring a picture if what you're describing is slightly more complicated than just giving guard numbers.read more

So i thought I had been getting a decent haircut until I was schooled by Joseph. He took the time to show me where the last Barber had made mistakes and asked me each step exactly how I wanted my hair cut. He isn't just a barber, he is an Artist that cares greatly for his craft. I've been searching for the right barber since mine retired about a year ago and it hasn't been easy but I think I finally found the right person. Also one of the least expensive places around. When living in East Village found this place via Google Maps. I get my haircut done by Jay and he is the man. Professional, quick, great service, and you can’t beat a $20 price tag unless you wanna go to one of the generic Chinatown barbershops. I’ve been going to my barber for 16 years and needed to find a great barber in the east village so I didn’t have to travel an hour. All of the other barbers in the area are way overpriced. Not B&H, they have prices that make me want to come back. But price isn’t everything, the service was second to none. A little over 5 years ago, I asked a coworker (who still continues to be a client at this barbershop) where he got his haircut, as it looked as consistently fire as I'd ever seen. So I decided to go and get my hair cut with Josef. Haven't looked back, and haven't missed a cut in five years plus! neighborhood barber transforming the unshaven & uncut into gentlemen. modern open layout with nods to the classic NYC barber shop. there's a good amount of seating if you have to wait. superclean and tidy shop. lots of natural sunlight. there's some complimentary beverages for customers.typically there are 1-3 barbers here. i never come here if there's a wait bc i'm impatient. however waits aren't typically too long. however cuts, shaves, etc. are not sped through...the shop takes their time to make sure you're looking sharp. i've been here twice and i was happy with both cuts i got. a regular haircut used to be $17... it's gone up to $20. $20 is quickly becoming the norm now in the East Village. you can get wash, shave, etc. as well for more obviously.the staff is pleasant, not too chatty. drops mic cuz i'm in the cutread more
