I’ve been going to my barber for 16 years and needed to find a great barber in the east village so I didn’t have to travel an hour. All of the other barbers in the area are way overpriced. Not B&H, they have prices that make me want to come back. But price isn’t everything, the service was second to none. The owner was very welcoming and assured me that he would get his top barber to give me a cut. He delivered!! So happy with the haircut and will be coming back real soon.read more

A little over 5 years ago, I asked a coworker (who still continues to be a client at this barbershop) where he got his haircut, as it looked as consistently fire as I'd ever seen. So I decided to go and get my hair cut with Josef. Haven't looked back, and haven't missed a cut in five years plus! These guys are professional, accommodating, polite and most importantly, they're the best at what they do: cutting hair. Very reasonable prices for Manhattan, I've been traveling here from wherever I lived for a haircut, Brooklyn, Queens, and even from college upstate NY! When living in East Village found this place via Google Maps. I get my haircut done by Jay and he is the man. Professional, quick, great service, and you can’t beat a $20 price tag unless you wanna go to one of the generic Chinatown barbershops. Be sure to book an appointment or walk in during off-peak hours because it will get packed. Joseph is the owner and they have other barbers too. I’d definitely recommend Jay!read more

I was always getting good haircuts from multiple places. But this place gave me different energy and different atmosphere. The barber who’s name is Johnny gave me perfect cut, before he started cutting my hair, first we discussed about my haircut and my hairstyle, he started cutting when we both were on same page. Great place to be at for a cut. Liked a very light atmosphere, friendly workers, jokes all around. I came with a friend, cut our hair by turn. So i thought I had been getting a decent haircut until I was schooled by Joseph. He took the time to show me where the last Barber had made mistakes and asked me each step exactly how I wanted my hair cut. He isn't just a barber, he is an Artist that cares greatly for his craft. I've been searching for the right barber since mine retired about a year ago and it hasn't been easy but I think I finally found the right person. Also one of the least expensive places around. I’ve been coming to B&H barbershop since I moved to the city half a year ago. Wanted to wait and really test these guys before writing a review. 5 stars for the team. One of the best barbers I’ve had in my lifetime, and will dearly miss him work when I leave NYC later this year. It’s tough to find a great barber, but when you do, you try to keep them for life. neighborhood barber transforming the unshaven & uncut into gentlemen. modern open layout with nods to the classic NYC barber shop. there's a good amount of seating if you have to wait. superclean and tidy shop. lots of natural sunlight. there's some complimentary beverages for customers.typically there are 1-3 barbers here. i never come here if there's a wait bc i'm impatient. however waits aren't typically too long. however cuts, shaves, etc. are not sped through...the shop takes their time to make sure you're looking sharp. i've been here twice and i was happy with both cuts i got. a regular haircut used to be $17... it's gone up to $20. $20 is quickly becoming the norm now in the East Village. you can get wash, shave, etc. as well for more obviously.the staff is pleasant, not too chatty. drops mic cuz i'm in the cutread more

Best barbershop I’ve been to for the price!!! Unbelievable find in NYC, the last barber I paid $50, and the quality was half of what it was at B&H. Now I know I got ripped off. Honestly this place is truly a steal and a fortunate find if you’re hustling in NYC and on a budget. I’ve had success with all barbers, but the barbers here have gotten the closest to what I was looking for. Don’t disappoint your girlfriend and come home with a less than handsome haircut.read more

I’m a big hairy man and my beard seems to grow to match that identity. Sometimes its becomes to powerful and I need to make a trip to the barbershop to tame and retrain it. My barber here, (forgetting his name now), really knew how to work the scissors with the clippers to give me a unique taper and textured mohawk. Many times I’ve left barbershops with shoulders slumped, feeling bummed out about the way I look. I have a particularly large head and most barbers never seem to be able to accommodate or recommend something that will look good on me. Josef (who I learned is the owner), was able to look at my head, asked a couple questions and did his magic. He found a shape that fit my head really well after many barbers had failed. There’s an innate talent and eye that can’t be replicated. These guys understand their craft to great depth and the way they talk to each other, I can tell their always learning and staying on the top of their game. I was skeptical at first when I saw their low price, but the quality exceeded expectations. $20 is hard to find in NYC and if it is that low, it’s typically inexperienced barbers trying to earn their stripes. Are you guys like me and get stressed out going to the barbershop not knowing what to expect? I walked in a little nervous for the first time, didn’t really know what I was looking for, and also didn’t make an appointment. I was welcomed into the shop, offered some water and was quickly serviced. The barber was very patient with my lack of knowledge and we discussed what I was looking for. What I love about living in the East Village is all the options. What I hate about East Village is all the options. It’s so much to sort through, so when I find a place I like I really stick with it. I forgot the name of my barber but he’s in the last chair on the right side. He did an excellent job on my man mane and even trimmed my eyebrows and ear hair. I didn’t even know I had ear hair, how embarrassing. But overall 5 star experience. I can’t tell you how long and annoying it’s been looking for a decent haircut for a decent price in NYC. You’d imagine that the service would be top notch due to all the competition, but it seems like many barbers slack off because of all the clientele in the area. This barbershop really cares about the details. It’s not just in the haircut but all the little things about the shop. I love the plants in the front, the music playing, and the convo i have with my barbershop. They keep the place tidy and there’s always someone sweeping the hair away. Really a top notch experience and I can’t wait to return because I owe my barber a larger tip. Bring cash because their credit card machine fails regularly. That’s the one honest downside. I’ve had Joseph cut my hair three times now, and I’ve been impressed each time. Joseph is a masterful barber. You will not be getting a cookie-cutter hair cut here. Everyone’s hair is different (head shape, thickness, hair pattern, etc.) and Joseph definitely takes this into account. He takes his time to make sure the cut is perfect each time. The consistency and the quality of the haircuts kept bringing me back to this shop even though I live 35 to 40 minutes away...not to mention, the price can’t be beat ($23 for a cut, $28 for cut/wash). If I lived closer, I’d frequent the shop more often. Would highly recommend.read more

Just recently discovered this small barbershop walking through Alphabet City. It’s low-key on a side street and really feels like a great local spot to visit. I made an appointment and actually brought my roommate with me and we both were quickly seated. Both were very satisfied with the haircut we received. First review for a barbershop, but these guys have completely earned it. Pleasant conversation, and masterful haircut. My curls are tough to deal with, many barbers have tried, and almost all have failed. The barber seemed to know what he was doing. He actually shampooed my hair and that too for no additional costs. He’s an amazing barber turned friend, and I’ll miss this barbershop more than I miss his haircuts (JK). I just moved to New Jersey this week, so my farewell gift to Joseph is this review. He’s been my barber for about 6 years now and has never disappointed. We’ve established a really strong relationship and I looked forward to coming to this shop once every two weeks. It was a ritual for my that I’ll dearly miss, but Manhattan just isn’t the same anymore. Anytime I’m in the city, I’ll definitely pop in to say hi to the guys and get a trim if it’s that time of the month. This barbershop is one of the few reasons I didn’t want to leave. During the epidemic, I was hesitant to return to the barbershop, but I couldn't stand it any longer. My hair was starting to LOOK CRAZY! I came in during a slack period throughout the workday and was quickly seated. There was no one else in the barbershop, and my barber was wearing a sanitizing mask. Walking without an appointment at around 2p on a Tuesday. Casual day with normal volume. First time here I was taking in by Steve. I told him what I wanted and he blended me perfectly. I have been going to Josef for nearly 15 years now m. I just recently went there and he cut off about 6 inches of hair. I could go to salons and higher end barber shops with a bunch of cool tattooed guys with peaky blinder haircuts but Josef is a better price and honest and humble when it comes to figuring out how you want your hair to look. My main issue with most barbershops is the unwelcoming atmosphere they create when you enter. You don't know what order you're in, no one says hello, and everyone is preoccupied with their own conversations. Since I moved into this house a few of years ago, I've been going to the other barber in my former neighbourhood out of devotion. Sadly, he shut down because of the epidemic, so I finally got to experience B&H. The barbers here are professional and attentive, and the store is quite clean. I've been coming here for almost half a year and always come out looking fresh. I have Asian hair that is thick, slightly wavy, and grows outwards, so it's not easy for barbers not used to that hair type to do fades. Typically my cousin cuts my hair, but he was out of town this week and I had to go to a wedding (the 5th wedding this year! People need to slow it down; divorce rates are higher than ever). And I can’t afford to keep getting haircuts. But a friend recommended B&H to me so I decided to give it a try. Well if my cousin wasn’t cutting my hair for free, (sometimes I’ll cook him a nice meal), then I wouldn’t see my cousin ever again, he talks way too much anyway. The barber at B&H really knows what he’s doing. Excellent styling and I even left with a nice pomade recommendation. Glad to have found B&H in such short notice.read more

I never trust any barbershop unless I get a real referral, from someone I know who has a good haircut. Today one of my coworkers came in like FIRE. I immediately asked him for a rec, because I’ve been looking like trash for a couple months because my old barber left the city. B&H barbershop is one of the best barbershops I’ve been to. I’d give them 10 stars if I could, just quality and consistency. Also not a long wait time, whenever a make appointments. My barber is always on time. One of the few spots in new york city that still care about service. I always tip 30% here because it’s worth it.read more

All the staff are excellent, I always walk in and never wait more than 5-7 minutes for a buzz cut. I’ve had at least 3 different staff members (Sam is fantastic, don’t remember the other two names) buzz my hair and they all came out great. Would really recommend this place for service, quality of the interactions with staff and prices. $30 for a buzz cut walk in - can’t beat it. Always get a hot towel too. Can’t recommend enough.read more

It’s important that I feel better after a haircut. And it’s the details that matter, the little hairs around the ear, the line up in the back, and no hairs sticking out on the side. That’s a big no no. B&H seems to be all about the little details which is why I keep coming back. I always appreciate referrals, if someone refers you somewhere they really care. It’s a reflection on them if it doesn’t work out, so that referral needs to be placed wisely. I recently received a referral for B&H from a friend who never refers anything. So I knew I had to try this place out. And yes, my theory is correct. Hey you, yeah you, the one who’s reading to make sure this barbershop is good. It is! Trust me, I’ve tried a hundred other barbers in the downtown area and B&H is by far one of the best. I wouldn’t steer you in the wrong direction, that’s really not my style. But these guys know style and will give you one of the best haircuts of your life. So i thought I had been getting a decent haircut until I was schooled by Joseph. He took the time to show me where the last Barber had made mistakes and asked me each step exactly how I wanted my hair cut. He isn't just a barber, he is an Artist that cares greatly for his craft. I've been searching for the right barber since mine retired about a year ago and it hasn't been easy but I think I finally found the right person. Also one of the least expensive places around. Oh and if you like whiskey he has that also included with the service. Great place. Awesome vibe. 😁.....9/30/20..just a little update and some new pictures. I've been going to Joseph now for almost a year and have never been disappointed. Each time my haircut looks better than the last. If you need someone who will listen to how you want your hair done and then sculpt your hair exactly how you want it then you need Joseph. Best prices and best barber in NYC!!! Still going in 2024. Traditional, no-frills barbershop in East Village. Everything I had anticipated, plus a fish tank and some lovely plants that I discovered had been given to me by a kind customer. I've been visiting B&H for around a year. Regretfully, I can no longer afford to reside in the area because my crazy landlord is upping my rent. which is terribly, really terrible because it means I can't visit B&H any more.
