The owner and barber, Jacque’ Scott, better known as Sci-Fi, is very skilled and has cut for some big name clients. Had one of my favorite cuts ever with Sci-Fi at her amazing shop. She has all the amenities you could possibly want in a modern barbershop: online appointments, takes cards, rewards system, offers a beverage, EXTREMELY clean shop (even cleaned the chair between cuts). My eyebrows and hair look fantastic (I'm a woman with a low fade), and I've received multiple compliments from my pickiest friends. By far the best haircut I ever had. Sci-Fi’s lineup skills and fades are amazing. She always has my hair looking great. What can I say... there is no barber for MILES that has the attention to detail and has the care that J. has. I have been to barbers far and wide and there’s a reason she has the clientele she has. If you are looking for a QUALITY haircut, look no further, as there is simply no where better, period. Even though I’ve moved out of the local area, I make it a priority to return here as there is simply nowhere else I could get as good of a cut. What keeps me coming back is 3 main things:1. The Quality of the Haircut - I was blown away by the her haircut and the beard trim and I ALWAYS receive many compliments on my look after going to her. But not only does it look good right after, it looks good as my hair/beard grows back in which is important. 2. Relationship with your Barber – I never truly appreciated a relationship with a barber before Sci-Fi. No joke, it feels like every haircut is better than the last, as she learns how to best cut my hair, more about me on a personal level etc…3. Flexibility – As an MVP Customer, I have taken advantage many times of being able to schedule last minute appointments. If you need any amount of hair cut, great or small, run, don’t walk, to Another Planet Barbershop! From the moment you step in ( please wipe your feet on the mat) you are quite literally transported to another planet! Great vibes and music abound but all of this is almost superfluous as the main event is the proprietress, Sci-fi. She is magic with any kind of blade and when given the opportunity to let her creativity soar, you will no doubt leave with one of the dopest cuts you ( or anyone) could imagine. I have now been to see Sci- fi twice and each time she has created thoughtful, functional, funky cuts with my hairs ‘ health always as a main concern. As a woman of color, living in a world full of long hair, weaves and lace fronts, I find it very empowering to have such short hair but not feel that my femininity is compromised. I really had an incredible experience at Sci Fi’s shop and I want to share it so that somebody else can benefit from the joy she brings. When you first walk in, expect to have your temperature taken and to be hit with some sanitizer bc Sci plays zero games when it comes to the Coronavirus. Once you’ve been sanitized, be prepared to be welcomed with open arms and an open mind. The shop is an experience in itself with extraterrestrial and cosmic backdrop and a huge projector screen playing the latest fire. You immediately feel the vibe but it feels familiar even though you might not have been there before. You feel at home. But Sci Fi makes her clients feel more than comfortable. She makes you feel like family. When I took my seat in the chair and told her what I wanted, she worked with me and gave me what I wanted, but more importantly she gave me what I needed. The undercut design I wanted simply wasn’t going to fit ME and she spoke up about it. She could have just taken a customer is always right approach, asked no questions, charged me, and been done with me. Instead, she put her beautiful creative mind to work and gave me something that worked for me. If you are looking for a new barber or a new look in general, I highly recommend Sci-Fi.read more

The owner, Sci-Fi is awesome and completes precision cuts with kindness and careful attention to detail! I am excited to return! Also I used to avoid barbers and hair salons for various reasons. I walked up to this barbershop by mere chance and I couldn't be happier for it. Let me be quite frank, Sci-Fi is unequivocally the best barber that has ever touched my hair.Upon seeing my old cut she immediately thought of some ways to improve the cut and future proof it for future hair growth! My first time walking into Another Planet blew me away! Not only is it similar to an out of body experience...the warmth, genuineness and love shown by Jacque’ isn’t something common to other shops I’ve frequented. Even pre-Covid, she ensured that each client was safe by not allowing a lot of traffic in the shop and disinfecting her tools and chair in between cuts. At another planet the barbers chair is up on a pedestal and you, the client, are the star and the center of attention. Jacque's total focus is on you and your hair and she is a true artist. I went here to have my head shaved and beard trimmed and and left with the best bald head and beard contour that I have ever had. The total experience was truly out of this world.read more

Came into my first appt with a whole lot of hair. Sci Fi ended up hooking me up with big chop cut — gave me a kind of asymmetrical mohawk fade that looked really nice. Sci-Fi knows what they are doing. I wanted an undercut cause my long blac thick hair is furnace that holds heat. I sent photos of ideas prior to my appt and she easily interpreted them to a smoove cut and fade. Now I'm not overheating, and to top it all off, I look cool af. Sci-Fi may very well be the most talented barber I'e ever been to. The first time I went to her and was unsure about bleaching my hair, she reassured me every step of the way and educated me on the overall process of bleaching. It can be uncomfortable going into a male barbershop for a haircut as a queer woman, so I was really excited to find Sci Fi. It was clear during the appointment that she pays attention to every detail and takes pride in her craft. It's really difficult to find a barber on Sci Fi's level. The fade was beautiful and she cleaned up the top of my head nicely. I left with a plan to get to the style I wanted. If you have the budget for her services, give her a try. Incredible! Jaques is a miracle worker! I wasn't sure if I'd be able to find a barber who would be able to my type of hair without traveling to a much further part of the city. They knew what would work for my hair's texture and how to fade the sides exactly the way I wanted. The inside of the shop is super cool too as it is covered in galactic murals.read more

The judgement I’ve dealt with when i had questions and the constant latenesses to scheduled appointments. This experience actually heightened my anxiety. There was a time I had to wait in the snow outside for half a hour when she was getting a massage next door(when we set a scheduled time. She cancelled on my birthday and blamed the weather although this was immediately before my appointment came up and oddly enough I show her with another client during that time. She always mentioned free haircuts at the time to me even a week earlier so to change it suddenly on my birthday was horribly rude. Haircuts were mediocre at best and she shaves with hairspray so skin was always irritated. I am glad that I made the change as it was always an uncomfortable experience
