Friel's Barber Shop opened in November 2016 by Joe Friel. He has a good attention to detail and the craft, and can even suggest a certain cut to fit the customer's style. This smaller shop moves pretty quick so you usually won't wait long. They specialize in mens and boys haircuts. From the old school to the new school.

Such a great Barber Shop! The staff is warm and friendly, and they do an amazing job. I brought my twin 1 year olds to have their first hair cut, and the Barber was so kind and understanding when they were a bit nervous. They did everything they could to help make it an enjoyable and easy experience and I appreciated that more than they know. This shop is in our hometown (we live over 2 hours away now), and I will continue to plan haircuts around trips to the area so we can go to Friel's. There really is not another place like it!read more

Jeff is the best barber I've had in years. Joe Friel, the owner is charismatic and extremely friendly. The rest of the staff are top notch as well as they're all very experienced and have come to work at Friel's Barbershop from other shops. It's an all star team if you will.read more

It was my first visit last Thursday afternoon; I wanted a short buzz for the summer. I spoke to the owner prior to that day but he was not there when I arrived so I chose Jeff. He is nice & made sure that the length & style was to my liking. I walked out of there 😄 to see the result. I received numerous compliments from people as well; it was remarkable. I highly recommend this place as I have also seen how the other customer's haircuts looked impeccable from the other stylists.read more

Everyone is extremely nice and relaxed at Friel's. In the past I had been to other shops where the the haircuts were not so great on top of the stylists being a bit cold or even rude to me. The barbers here know what they're doing and then some. I have been twice and gotten designs on my undercut buzz, and each time I have received plenty of compliments for them. The woman who has done my hair is very skilled, gentle and precise with her work. I trust the people here to do a good job and make sure that I'm comfortable in the process of doing so. I kind of used to dread getting buzzed, but I don't mind coming here at all. They're lovely.read more

Friel's - the only place you can get a legitimate beard trim and excellent men's cut for ~$20. Staff is always friendly, atmosphere is pleasant and laid back. Always see parents in there with their kids. An absolute gem in Hamilton. Cannot recommend higher!read more

The staff here made me feel welcome from the moment I opened the door. Jeff was great with my son, who had never had a haircut before. Wow!!! I'm so glad I took the time on Google to find this place. This is truly a spectacular barber shop. A hot towel shave seems to be a dying art and is hard to find now a days but it is still available at Friel's. A shave is worth every penny and is an experience that should not be missed. They are also great Men's barbers. I can't speak to each barber but Jeff is a true professional. I could not be happier with my first visit and this shop will be my new go to when I am in the area.read more

Update during COVID. They recently reopened and have to say their precautions were excellent. Made me feel very comfortable. Masks, gloves, disposable covers, and temperature checks. Best shop around. We have been going to Friel’s for two years now since my sons first ever haircut! Joe and his staff made that new experience for my son so awesome! I'm a picky person when it comes to haircuts. I came across this place thanks to Google. The only place in the area that had 5 stars. I'm from California visiting for work and was in desperate need of a cut. And boy 5 stars was right. They did exactly what I wanted and the atmosphere was great. Great music on in the background and everyone just chit chatting making it a very comfortable environment. I would definitely recommend this place and definitely will be back for another cut!!! Used to go here months ago. They give good haircuts, but the staff isn’t the friendliest. Went to various barbers there and on multiple occasions they would openly complain about customers, specifically those who called into the shop. Receiving phone calls should be expected by businesses in my opinion. Maybe they should be appreciative that so many people want to give them business. That alone made me hesitant to continue going there because who knows what they might complain about when I walk out the door. I can understand how some customers can be bothersome, but saying it so openly may make normal customers feel unwelcome.The main reason I refuse to ever go back is because I had an appointment there a few months back, which I unfortunately had to cancel because of a family emergency. I reluctantly called the shop to cancel even though I knew how much it annoys them (why even have a phone?). I canceled 24 hours before my appointment and the person on the phone said okay and that was pretty much it. The next day I get notified that the owner sent me an invoice for $60 for a missed appointment, even though I canceled the day prior. Regardless $60 is the price of two haircuts so i’m not sure why he thought that was the appropriate amount to demand from me.Not trying to be a Karen, but my experiences have not been the best there. As a fellow veteran, I hope their business will continue to prosper and that they will maybe learn from this. I worked in costumer service for awhile and I know how annoying the stuff you deal with can get. Maybe it would be better to keep the grievances they have with customers between themselves.They get 3 stars for giving quality fades and being veteran owned, but some lacking in the customer service department.read more

My son is always reluctant to go for a haircut as he feels like being hurt someway or the other "EVERY TIME". Also, usually we have not seen what we want from other hair salons. But Friel's Barber shop is pretty awesome. They did what they are best at. My son after the haircut said "This is the best salon I have ever went". Geoff Fifield was super cool. He knew what we were looking for from style perspective, made my son feel comfortable all along and did a fantastic job. I will be a regular customer to this place from now on and would recommend this to anyone who is looking for professional hair cut. Just make an appointment!!read more

Joe and his team are great barbers. They are attentive passionate and orderly. Usually on weekends at any shop you must book appointments. Since Covid that has been the standard practice for every place. Booking is easy to do online or a simple call will get your spot reserved. This barber shop is by far one of the best in hamilton. My son has been going to another barbershop for most of his childhood, but we've had issues with his haircuts recently. We made an appointment with Geoff to see if he could fix his hair. Everyone there was incredibly nice, and Geoff went out of his way to make sure that my son got the exact haircut he wanted. He even took the time to shake his hand after the haircut, which may seem small, but after all the struggles to get his hair how he wanted it, these little gestures make a big impact. My son said that he was very happy with this haircut, and he really liked the people and the shop. We moved to the Hamilton area about 6 years ago and have been on a constant search for a new barber shop. Every place we tried fell short of our expectations. Until we found Friel’s. Our two boys had their first haircuts there with Geoff, who did an amazing job. Since then, they’ve been seeing Joe regularly and they love him. Joe is a master at his craft and is always kind and pleasant. When our 3 year old told him “only cut my hair, leave my beard”, Joe went the extra mile and gave him a pretend shave. It made my son’s whole day and made him feel special. Joe is great with kids and skilled. We finally found our place! Rarely give anywhere 5 stars but I’d honestly give Friel’s 10 stars if I could.read more

I’ve exclusively been going to Friel’s for 4 years, being a girl, barber shops can sometimes be a little tough/don’t cater to women, every time I’ve gone to Friel’s, at one point being every two weeks, they have always been welcoming/accommodating to what style I want/what looks best. It is not easy to find a place where you can consistently get a great haircut every time. It is hard to trust someone to continually deliver your requested style and listen to your specific hair needs. I searched for that type of comfort and consistency most of my adult life. I found that years ago when Joe started cutting my hair and I haven't been to anywhere else since. Friel's has been the only place I have gotten my haircut since the day they opened. The team there are professional and all at the top of their game. I have never had a bad haircut or seen anyone get a bad cut there. This guy is a true artist with those scissors and clippers - he somehow manages to bring out the absolute best in every hairstyle he touches. By far the best shop around. Joe, the owner treats all clients so well on top of giving a great cut. I’ve worked with almost everyone else that works there and am never disappointed. Their appointment system is great! It’s so nice to know you have a scheduled time and don’t have to worry if you are going to be waiting. It’s a popular place, so I always make my appointment for my next cut right after I leave there. Place is always clean and well maintained. I personally don’t have kids, but regularly see all aged children when I’m there and they are really great with them. Frisk’s is top notch! Love this place. I’ve seen it grow from the owner and a barber to a full staff. I’ve brought them Rita’s on hot days bc the staff is just that friendly and why not go the extra mile. If I had to suggest a barber I’d say Joe, Geoff, or Ali in no particular order. Clean, friendly, fun to be around; plus the owner is a Marine. Always support veteran owned!! Friel's Barber shop is a wonderful place! I took my preschooler to have her hair cut really short( I did it myself, not the best job). Joe, the owner, greeted my child at her level. He was so kind and patient with her. She was pretty shy, but he was able to make her and myself feel right at home. Until my daughter can do her own hair, Friel's will be her go-to barber shop!
