Description
The Philadelphia Barber Company is a modern high end barber shop born from an industrial warehouse space under the El in Northern Liberties, in one of the cities most vibrant neighborhoods. They have educated barbers that specialize in all the latest styles, fades, undercuts, side parts, pompadours, and everything in between. Besides providing your classic barbershop services, they try to bring in local artists to show off their work and occasionally have live music in the shop. While you are there, feel free to enjoy a beer or shot of whiskey.

Not the cheapest haircut I've gotten, but between the hot towel, post-cut clean-up, and all-natural hair products they use, it's worth it. I'm kind of undecided on if I'll go back or not. The place is comfortable and staff is welcoming. My haircut was done very well but the reason I visited a new place was for the beard trim. The service provided was excellent, hot towel, friendly conversation. But I didnt feel like the final cut was worth the trouble of spending the extra money and traveling out of my neighborhood. Maybe one of the other barbers specialize in beards and would be worth the second try. But without really having any idea who is better at what I'm not sure id take the chance here or try somewhere else.read more

Edit: Gave them another shot. This time I went for just a beard trim. Andrew did an excellent job. Trimmed my beard the way ive been trying unsuccessfully myself to do. Took the time to try and teach me how to do it myself. I'll give the 5th star if my next visit is this good.I'm kind of undecided on if I'll go back or not. Overall, a solid barbershop. I've been to about 4 different staff members and all of them did a good job. Cool environment. The downsides are that they lack availability, likely because they offer these "clean up" slots. If you have a busy schedule or have to work around your work schedule, good luck. Also, kind of pricey for the value.What prompted me to write this review is the "Clean up" service that they offer. Its 15 min, and $20. I'm going out of town and couldn't find an actual haircut slot, but I really only need a hold-me -over - nothing to the top, or styling or anything. Well, we had 15 minutes. I asked if she could just clean up my neck and take the sides in a little tighter. Didn't really think this was a big ask, considering its the price of an actual haircut in the rest of the world. She said "oh actually you got the clean up, so we just trim the edges around the back". I felt like leaving, since I can ask someone to do that in 2 minutes for free. Since I already blocked off time for work and walked all the way over there, I sat while she kept pretending to do extra work around my neckline to fill up 15 minutes. probably the biggest waste of time and money I'll have all of this year.This would all be fine, if I had any idea what I was getting into when scheduling, it would be on me. Online it's vague - "clean up". I found out the hard way.read more

Jess was great. Thanks for the haircut and conversation. The owner was funny. He was eating two slices of pizza and talking about how his beard made him want to use a fork to eat it. Atmosphere was great. Kind, friendly, professional, and organized. I see some people didn't like it. That's a head scratcher to me. (shrug) I turned down the beer on tap (is it free?) They are doing everything perfectly! The second you walk in, you're greeted with a smile and a refreshment. Next, you can sift through some old-school comics and watch whatever incredible movie they have playing on the TVs while you wait. They are very efficient with their time, so the only "waiting" you'll do is if you arrive early for your appointment. I get my hair cut by Ken, one of the co-founders, and he does a phenomenal job at both cutting my hair and giving me advice on how to better take care of it. Last cut, he took the time to walk me through everything about hair health: how often to shampoo, how to better dry it after a shower, the proper directions to brush it, how to better utilize my hairdryer, recommended product to add, and so much more. I love their Hemlock products. Ken rocks, and I'm so lucky he's my barber. He truly cares!Every worker and client at the Philadelphia Barber Co just seems so happy to be there. Had a great first experience with jenna! She was really cool and helped me make sense of my hair, this was my first time growing it out and I wanted to try something different. First time customer and the standard has been set ridiculously high. Had an appointment with Bridget and it was the first time styling my hair this way and she NAILED it. I have had hundreds of haircuts all around the world and never have I ever felt this confident and comfortable with a haircut. The manager, “Tore” is awesome and a couple others Ive had a chance to chat with for a bit. I like the complimentary beer and the way my barber (Anthony) was doesnt make me feel like I regretted stoping by. Price for a haircut is $45 which is not bad, $40 would be better. Location is clean and welcoming.read more

I have been here a few times and I really enjoy the vibes! Decor is great. Everyone is quite friendly and I've been very happy with my cuts from Vic, who I recommend. His fades are on point. Prices are competitive if not better than places in this area. Parking can be a bit tough at times, so would recommend coming a bit earlier if you are driving. They do have a bar-like seating area and can serve you 1 drink while waiting for your barber. Would recommend!read more

I'm rather picky when it comes to things that I like to be consistent. Maybe it's unrealistic when it comes to my haircut, but that's what I've sought after. When I moved to the area I had to find a new spot since the other was now far away. Saw this place online, it looked chill, thought I'd give it a shot. Let me tell you, it's a testament to Phila Barber Co in Northern Liberties that we happily drive over an hour, monthly, for our haircuts even after moving out of the city! As parents of three (10, 8 and almost 2-year-old), finding a barber shop where we feel truly welcome and comfortable has always been a struggle. In the past, bringing a toddler often meant getting the side-eye and unspoken judgment, with the assumption they were about to endure a baby crying for the next half hour. Phila Barber Co is a complete breath of fresh air.From the moment we step inside, the entire staff—from the receptionist to the barbers themselves—greets us with genuine warmth and understanding. Their patience as we navigate juggling haircuts for my husband and two sons while wrangling our little one is simply incredible.The receptionist goes above and beyond, not only queuing the TV up to something kid-friendly but even asking our boys what they'd like to watch on YouTube and letting them pick! It's a small detail, but it makes a monumental difference in how welcome and at ease our kids feel. They truly feel "at home" here.We're particularly fond of Vic, who consistently gives my husband a great trim and shave, leaving him happy every time. For our boys, Hannah is simply phenomenal. She has a friendly demeanor and incredible patience with our kids. She's somehow able to get our usually quiet kids to open up and chat in the chair, which is truly surprising. There's a special connection there, especially with their shared interest in YouTube content creation (they're in awe of her actual Play Button, making her even cooler in their eyes!). It's incredibly difficult to find a barber who is genuinely wonderful with kids, and Hannah is just that.To any parents out there struggling to find a fantastic, kid-friendly barber in the city, I cannot recommend Phila Barber Co highly enough.
