Having read several glowing 5-star reviews of Talking Heads in Asbury Park I was cautiously optimistic as I headed to my first experience yesterday... Bottom line: These guys are the real deal, they delivered and more, a great cut, a terrific experience overall, and an environment that is as unpretentious and comfortable as any guy could possibly hope for. They actually care about their clients, what a concept! My only regret is that I did not know of them or have an opportunity to give them a try months & months ago! ha Can't recommend John, Joe, and the rest of the crew highly enough, also booking an appt online was a piece of cake and another plus. My hair journey can only be described as a "long strange trip." However, that trip has found a permanent home at Talking Heads. I have gone to many salons looking for that "right look," but it was not until I met John that it all clicked. Talking Heads is the only barbershop I can go to without feeling any "haircut anxiety." I can visit the shop confident that I will walk out with a solid cut from any of the barbers (though John "the Hawk" Hawksby is the best of the best). A cut above. I unequivocally recommend Talking Heads. I see John once a week for a beard trim and lineup, with haircuts every 4-5 weeks. He keeps me looking like a gentleman. His eye is impeccable. If he says my beard should be shaped a certain way, or that a certain length for my hair is best, he’s right. The subtle insight is always appreciated. The jokes and our rapport make the time I spend in his chair a pleasure.read more

Parking isn't the easiest, but to be expected for the location - if you are traveling there.Prices are what you would expect, I'm sure that location carries alot of overhead, and quality also demands a market price.The shop mascot was a great pup, I was glad to make that edit of the picture.I had given a 3 star, no review or detail statements; and that was definitely a mistake. The owner and staff were friendly my last visit, which was about a year ago... Shave and cut were exactly what I expected.Being contacted, so directly-with a photo of my Google profile in a text (directly) about my review was a little odd, but I can also appreciate at the same time, their pride in their work and extending an effort to have a 3 star review explained. I'm cool with that-but I wouldn't recommend texting directly other clients, they may find it creepy. Glad to finally get a haircut from my man Hawk. John has been cutting my hair for the past 20+ years. In fact he is the only person to cut my hair in the past 20 years.Talking Heads Barbershop has the old school barbershop feel, but with an atmosphere that welcomes people from all walks of life. It was nice to see they are taking all the precautionary measures to ensure their customers safety, and their own. Every person who walks in gets a temperature scan, and a mask is required.They always have eclectic music playing, which is a plus. The entire staff is friendly, I couldn't ask for a better experience.Keep up the great work!read more

Love the quality of haircut these guys give me time after time. Andrew has been my barber for the last 6 years or so; I'd consider him much more of a friend than my barber. As for the shop, I don't know another barber shop in town that radiates such peaceful vibes. Stephen has been my go to barber for months. I refuse to let anyone touch my hair after I started going to him months ago. I don't think I've ever reviewed a barber shop before but I had to give Talking Heads the credit they deserve.I've gotten my hair cut by both Sean and John and both haircuts were some of the best I've ever had. I have very thick and curly hair so most barbers struggle a bit but they had no problems.Prices are very reasonable (especially for the quality of the hair cut), plenty of free street parking nearby, and the haircut itself was great; absolutely recommend to anyone!read more

The shop has an incredible vibe filled with classical music and great shop talk. I have been brining my 9 and 6 year old sons with me and really enjoy our monthly visits. Not being from around the area, I was weary to try a new place for a haircut. Went with it based on the amazing online reviews. And boy were they spot on! Excellent experience all around. I am a happy customer of Talking Heads Barber Shop for over 7 years and counting. They are my absolute go to place. I've spent my whole life going to many different salons and barber shops and was never fully satisfied with the results. I have difficult thick hair to cut, one wrong move and my hair looks noticeably uneven. It got to a point that I would just ask for a buzz cut, or buzzed it myself at home because it was easier with less frustration. This all changed when I decided to stop in Talking Heads 7 years ago when they first opened up in Asbury. My barber John was able to meticulously shape my hair in away that gave me the ability to let it grow out. Ever since that day, I never buzzed my hair again and refuse to. Not only do they offer skilled haircuts, beard trims, and shape ups, but the energy and vibe at their location is a great pick me up. Especially at their new location. Plus the music playlists there always varies and is enjoyable, there has been many times I had to ask my barber "What band is this?". Like many agree, Talking Heads is just a whole vibe. I highly recommend them to anyone that is looking for a quality haircut that they can be proud of in a great environment. I've been been getting my haircut from John and Talking Heads Barber Shop for 7+ years now and can't give enough compliments about the place. The haircuts themselves are exactly what you want each time and you never come out disappointed. I am always impressed by no matter how many customers they have they seem to always remember how returning customers like their cuts. They are great about getting you in and out in your scheduled time and can't think of one time I have come in with them running behind schedule. Earlier this week I had attempted to book an appointment online and I was having issues. I called in to make an appointment and there was a problem with making the appointment due to my attempted online booking that was still pending. Long story short, I thought I had a 3:30 appointment today to get my haircut right before the holidays and I didn’t. John took my appointment and cut my hair after they were scheduled to close, after what I’m sure was a long and crazy day of cutting hair right before the holidays. Not only did he extend himself to make sure I was taken care of, he gave me the best haircut of my life.
