Worst haircut of my life. Whoever is working upstairs for this facility needs to be fired. Guy, chopped off half of my hair and all different parts of my head and I looked like a cheetah coming out of there. Simply asked for a little bit trimmed up top and a zero on the sides and ended up coming out, looking like a leopard.read more

I have to say, I really wanted to like this place. Cool atmosphere, nice products, but don’t bother with a hot shave.$50 for a shave is steep as it is, more so when you get an electric razor shave with a straight razor finish that leaves some remaining stubble. Just disappointing.read more

I paid for my husband to get his haircut for his birthday… he loved the cut, his face was freshly shaved and it looked amazing. What I happen to be unsatisfied about is that I paid an extra $20 for scalp exfoliation, massage and shampoo… my husband relayed to me that they only shampooed his hair… so I paid $20 for someone to wash my husbands hair? If the service is different please change the description of the service…. Not what we were expecting at all. I paid $150 for his haircut, shave and shampoo and tip. Ferndale location: To start, I got a decent cut from this place. I’ve always had a problem giving specific directions when getting my haircut, which I’m sure is extremely frustrating for barbers. Regardless, my barber understood what I was trying to say and did what I asked. I also got a straight razor shave that missed a few spots, which normally I wouldn’t care about.But for the price, I can say this place isn’t worth it. I paid $90 for a decent haircut and a subpar shave. I could have gotten a similar haircut at Great Clips and paid half as much, although a place like that doesn’t offer straight shaves.The shop was tense, and as quiet as a funeral home. You could’ve heard a pin drop. I thought someone had just died. My barber was nice enough, though. I don’t think anyone would be too stoked about working Friday evening. This group definitely wasn’t.In sum:- Good barber who gave me a good cut despite me being an indecisive idiot when it comes to haircuts- Hilariously overpriced- Tense, quiet, despondent atmosphereIf you want to spend around $100 for a haircut and shave, I’m sure there’s better places in the area.read more

Pulled up, notice guy smoking mj, I walk in, guy walks in behind me. Tell them my name, seats me. Who’s cutting my hair? Stoney McGee, proceeds to give me probably the worst haircut I’ve had all year, then charges me $45. Won’t be back unless they can prove they take their business seriously. I have no problem with people blazing at work as long as I’m not the one who has to suffer the consequences for a month or so.read more

Booked an appointment online for the first available stylist on a Saturday. I was running exactly 5 minutes late and even called ahead to let them know that I was running five minutes late, but would be there as I was already on my way. When I arrived, the stylist still had someone in their chair and based on the progress of the haircut, they had been sitting there for some time already. Waited 35 more minutes beyond my appointment, and the stylist I was booked with apologized because he said they overbooked him. I then visited the front desk to see if anyone else was available to cut my hair and they suggested I wait an additional 30 minutes for an available barber to return from lunch as the next available appointment was at 2, and that if 2:00pm didn’t work they could get me in on Tuesday.If you book an appointment here, be prepared to wait, because their online appointment system does not at all match true stylist availability.The screenshots attached to this review are there websites system showing availability which does not at all match what the front desk attendant told me on site about their availability.read more

I have gotten my hair cut here three separate times with three separate barbers and none of the haircuts were worth the price.However after this most recent experience I am never coming back, and strongly recommend other people find a different place. I paid about $70 for a bald fade and beard trim. The barber completely missed my hard part line and moved it down about a centimeter leaving a strip of hair much shorter than the top. For these prices you expect them to know what they’re doing.However what I find much more infuriating is the beard. My beard was about 4”-5” by the chin and 2”-3” by the sides. The barber cut it all off to about half a centimeter…. Now granted when asked in the beginning about the beard I said “make it look good” and wasn’t super specific and it was long a straggly looking but that’s why I came to a professional to trim it up. I’ve had beard trims at other places with the exact same hair instructions and the barbers would talk to me before cutting and make sure they were doing what I wanted. If I wanted to cut the whole thing down to the same length I could have done that at home in 2 minutes. The barber was still working on my hair when he told me to lift my chin and just took the buzzers to it and at that point it was too late to change anything. Save yourself the money and the head ache and go somewhere else.EDIT: Credit where credit is due, after calling the shop and talking to a manager she was polite and issued me a full refund.read more

Initially... when I first went to Detroit Barber co, the first couple visits went great. Then the last two times were absolutely terrible. I have an almost 5 year old son. The last two times, I was directed upstairs. I had to wait which I don't mind but the style and duration of cut was not appropriate for a young child, who is only going to cooperate for a limited time. Both times the session went 45 minutes ongoing to the point my son is crying for it to stop which has never happened anywhere (he's been getting cuts since he was 2), ultimately I had to cut the session with an incomplete hair cut. Still I'm paying $30 plus for a job not done. The most recent time, I asked the barber for the last 20 minutes to try and get to the top of his hair and fade it in, expedite the process for a child, that using the clipper was okay, he is a young child it doesn't need to be perfect, its needs to be suitable for a young boy but I explained he was getting tired. I told him the back was short enough and he persisted to fade it more with another barber for another 15 minutes practicing, after I explained my son wasn't going to tolerate the cut that long. I tipped on the first bad experience despite being extremely unhappy but the last time was too frustrating, I had to go home and try to finish it myself and cut the top of his hair, and I'm an accounting major. I will never be back. I called to explain how upset I was in disbelief, and basically staff could care less. DO NOT take your children here.read more

When I first started going I thought the place was OK. But now it's just a disgrace. For what you pay, the cuts are hit or miss. I tried to use the same barber only to realize they don't respect your time or money.This LAST time the barber started me 15 min late while he was working on someone else. Didn't apologize for starting me late. Then at the end when I ask, "Hey can you clean up my facial hair a bit?". He says "I don't think I have time..... Oh wait well did you pay for that?"(obviously the time issue was his fault now putting it on me) I don't have a beard so I'm not paying another $30 or $40 for something I don't have. Besides it's less than a couple minutes to complete the job.Needless to say I'm more than disappointed for having spent my money at a place that doesn't value customers.read more

Only book an executive package here if you want to leave feeling robbed. You guys need a piece of paper or something the customer can state what they want done for service. I came in wanting a haircut, straight razor shave and facial. Never had a straight razor shave in my life and 150 dollars later, I still haven’t had one.Barber was nice but was asking me what I wanted as if he was unsure of the services paid for. Im from out of town for a wedding, wife booked the appointment and I wasn’t familiar myself with what was all included. When we got to the beard trim, I told him I wanted everything off. So he used an electric trimmer and then before I knew it the facial started. No ear or eyebrow trimming took place to my knowledge. Haircut was nice and the facial was relaxing.read more

I am even ashamed of posting a pic of how I left the barbershop, as soon as I got home I had to blend the haircut myself with my own clippers. Took my son to get a hair cut here right before Christmas. Barber went straight to shaving his head (he’s 2.5) and we said no! That’s not what we wanted. End result is an awful “fade” and choppy miss-matched cut on top. I ended up chasing my toddler around the entire next day cutting inch long chunks of hair out of the top of his head (which is supposed to be about a 1/4 inch long). He looks ridiculous. Have to wait a few weeks for it to grow out so we can go and get it fixed!read more

First and Last time I will come to this barber. I personally have only ever been to a barber’s once, which coincidentally was also my first time at detroit barber co. I went in to get a beard trim because I had a college graduation celebration to attend to, I wanted my beard to look crisp and professional for photos with my family, friends, and other loved ones. When I first got there I had a good introduction, the staff/lady behind the counter was helpful and guided me to the barber I had been scheduled with. The atmosphere at first was giving me a good vibe but then I was guided upstairs to where my barber was stationed. The upstairs portion of the building looked unprofessional and as if someone was running a barber shop out of their own house. I get it, spacing is tight and the barbers working their might have had different levels of professionalism/experience affecting where they may be stationed, although, for being such a highly rated barber shop I feel as though they should at least fully furnished the entire building… anyway, that’s beside the point.When I first was introduced to my assigned barber he seemed nice and was helping 2 gentleman, one was getting a cut and the other was a friend waiting for his turn. It turned out my appointment was booked right between the two appointments so my barber was rushing my trim to get to the other customer who’s friend was waiting for him. All in all, the appointment scheduling was odd and my trim was rushed. My barber didn’t even use a straight razor, just an electric trimmer, and I left with an uneven beard, one side being higher/lower than the other so I ended up finishing the trim at home. What a waste of $20 for what I ended up fixing at home.My assigned barber was Ajee.read more

Ryan at the Ferndale shop has been my go-to for over a year now. He gives me a great cut every time. When it’s just a regular cut he gets me in and out quickly while giving me exactly what I am looking for. Recently, I just had the works done for my wedding cut, beard trim, and straight shave around the edges of my beard. The service is always great. One thing I really appreciate is the way Ryan treats anyone who comes through the door while I am in the chair. He welcomes everyone, regardless of their ability and takes the time to help those that are not as able.read more

Not what this place used to be, unfortunately. This was by far the worst haircut I’ve had in my 40 years being alive. I scheduled with a specific person (have email to prove it) but when I showed up, they told me I’m scheduled with someone else upstairs. I won’t mention any names but pretty sure this person was still a student. Horrible haircut. It took over an hour and my hair is now uneven, I have hairs sticking out in random areas, and the back of my neck was not cleaned up AT ALL. I made another appointment somewhere else and will not be returning here. I advise you to do the same.read more

My sister took my nephew in for a haircut for the first time last week. The barber was completely cold and rude. I don’t think he said one thing to my 8 year old nephew. We tried to give him an idea of what we wanted and barely even got a “ok” as a response.I guess having no personality and making customers feel uncomfortable is just how some people operate, but the biggest issue was, it was a pretty terrible haircut. Someone had to fix it after. It was just a generic little boy haircut, nothing hard.Not sure if he just doesn’t like his job or has something else going on in his life, but it caused a bad enough experience that we won’t be back, which is sad because we live a block away and have three guys in the house who would have come regularly for haircuts.read more

Update: I appreciate the response. You guys have called me multiple times within an hour of my appt to cancel so you should clearly be able to identify this. I fully understand that a new barber means a new experience and I’m not sure if it’s appropriate to put a bad haircut on the customer. Clearly explaining what you want and usually get does not help - I’ve never had an experience where myself and the barber didn’t have that convo…. I get a bald fade it’s easy to tell cause I get it cut very frequently. When you charge high prices for a cut there should be a higher standard you hold your employees too.This place has cancelled my appt at least 5 times or you wait even when making an appt pretty much every time. No offer of a discount or any type of customer service when cancelling. Depending on who you see they all have a different idea of the haircut you want. The price should be $10 less for the service you receive. The results don’t justify the price I get home and touch up my hair every time ive went. It’s an overpriced BoRics with a cool building. This was my first time to the shop and chose it because of the great reviews. I have medium length hair and typically keep my hair styled as a side part and told the barber, Martez, that I was just looking for a trim, to clean up the sides just a bit and for a super low fade or taper on my sideburns. I told him him specifically to keep the weight on the side because I like the length. I think the only words he heard was fade because he ended up shaving off half my head, chopping off the weight on the side I specifically asked to keep. He finished the entire cut in 10 minutes out of the supposed 30 minutes the cut was scheduled to take and you can tell he rushed it because as soon as I got home I found patches of uneveness around where he cut and had to trim my hair myself to somewhat fix it. Now I have to spend the next few months regrowing my hair out to where I had it before. My hair hasn't been this disrespected since my mom used to plop a bowl on my head as a kid and just cut around it.Definitely would not recommend based on this experience. Not sure what the other barbers are like but hopefully they give more care and have a proper consultation before cutting to fully understand their client's needs or if they need expectations reset.read more

Update: thanks for the reply but no I didn't actually select her I selected an executive cut and there was no name to select... I came in and was given to her and she obviously must have been new because she was obviously being treated like she was a beginner but thanks for the reply like I said I won't be back....Couple months back I came in for a haircut, had just above shoulder length hair and wanted it back short again...simple ask really. Have had this done at a few other local shops with no issue...This time I was on my way to a business trip and thought I could come in for a fresh cut from "pros"So I walked in and was given to a barber who was female barber obviously training, needless to say they felt super unconfident and had to keep waiting to show another senior barber my hair...then he walked away to have a cig., then asked again and at this point he started showing her how to cut... this was literally the worst experience! then he walked away as she continued, she asked for him to take a look and he was like "you got this" and let her keep going...At that point, I had to stand up out of my chair and ask the senior barber to take over!! I said "I came here because you are a barber shop, you guys are supposed to be experts but I really am not feeling that way" Barber was put off and "sit in my chair and I will finish..."All this after booking an executive barber cut, receptionist automatically charged for a regular cut which is the most positive I can say about the entire ordeal!Vibes were off as well, atmosphere was cold and not a fan of other barbers sitting there looking as my hairs getting cut complimenting the barber "I love watching you cut bro" Felt like I was at Aveda school....PS: I tipped both the girl in training and the other barber, but would never return if that's the normread more

I would assume my haircut was an outlier from the other reviews. However, this was a horrendous experience in almost every facet. I asked for a taper fade to be taken down to a one guard on the sides and my hair evened out on top; when I left the hair on the sides and back of my head was still nearly two inches, and the top not even remotely evened out. The most maddening aspect of all was that this took over an hour for a 30 minute appointment. The other barbers upstairs cut a combined five people in the time it took me to get something that I did not ask for. Not only was my haircut a complete disappointment, but I was running so late I could not even ask for any adjustments. On top of this, my barber made me extremely uncomfortable by leaning into my shoulders and arms excessively and repeatedly pressing herself into me. This was a complete waste of time and money for me. I hope others have an experience similar to the mostly positive reviews I here.read more
