Had a hair consultation with Andy and I was extremely pleased with the whole process. To start we chatted about my hair history so Andy could get a feel of what worked and didn't work for me in the past, and then it transitioned to figuring out what kind of cut we would go for today. He explained my face shape and type of hair and went through two options he thought were good but made sure to go in depth of pros and cons of both. I chose one and he got to work, what I really loved is there wasn't exactly a definitive plan about how short we would go on the sides, it was more formed as he started cutting and got familiar with my hair to ensure I was getting the best looking cut. The haircut was very precise and I loved the finished product. We recorded a video on my phone of the styling process so I can always refer back to it at home. And then that night he emailed me a "hair resume" that listed all the things we talked about and included pictures plus barber lingo that I can show my barber at home so I could get the haircut consistent to match my hair goals. Hiyaaa! happy customer here! I am a fan of the 12pell haircut videos and I showed them to my partner. We decided to give it a try and booked an appointment with Tim. We are super happy with the results! My fiancé is generally introverted but Tim was great with him by being proactive. He asked helpful questions such as what cut he usually gets, what he wants/prefers, what his old barber used to do that he liked/disliked, and more. He also gave detailed insight on what fits his face shape. Also, we were delighted when he gave tips on how to moisturize and deep condition curly hair and how to maintain it. He even recommended products that most probably will work well with his hair type (without forcing us to buy it on the spot lol). Tim was detail oriented with the cut by explaining along the way which tool he is using, and what to expect on how it will look. Lastlt, the beard trim was phenomenal! I booked an appointment with Josh N for a scissor cut and was very happy with the results. I am usually very picky because I am faithful to my OG stylist at another place. I also work in the fashion industry behind the scenes, so I'm hyper sensitive in assessing. Unfortunately the one that I normally go to is out the country, and I needed a maintenance cut. I found this place from Instagram. I placed the appointment as soon as possible. I met Ro and he was a great guy asking me if I was new to the shop. Following up questions about my knowledge of the shop and my desire hairstyle. I requested a middle part / wolfcut. I did grow for over a year and I trusted his advice on the lengths of the hair and my preference of the style. It took 30 minutes but the conversation I had with him was a great impression of his character and the shop. This is the place where they get to know about your life style around your hair not just cutting hair. Definitely the best cut I've gotten. Peter knew exactly what he was doing with my hair and I may have went into the cut a little nervous but once I got sat down and Peter started explaining things to me I felt really comfortable that he knew what he was doing. Been going to Tim at 12Pell since 2021 and cannot recommend this place enough. Everything from the ambience, the service, and the people are absolutely worth every dollar. Figured it was finally time I upped my game and got a really good haircut, I found 12 Pell on google and was really impressed with all the good reviews. I booked a consultation w/scissor cut, since I had no idea what would look good on me lol. It was a great experience! As a first time 12 Pell customer, I had a great haircut experience by Mary. I've been usually cutting my own hair for years and wanted to get proper service to freshen things up a bit more. Not sure where to begin but the vibe and professionalism of this Barber shop is top-notch. You are always greeted at the door along with someone taking your bag to store and asking if you need water. Okay, let me just state right off the bat that you should come here if you want a really good haircut from some amazing barbers. These are the greatest people to visit if you want to get a haircut since they always tell you what's best for your hair and check in with you as they go along. Another thing I love is how my hair turned out since I've been wanting a wolf cut hairstyle and everyone I've gone to for it has always messed it up, but Josh did such a wonderful job cutting my hair! My hair was cut and styled by Kevin and I could not recommend him enough. I’ve had a regular haircut and a haircut consultation here, and they were hands down two of the greatest haircuts I’ve ever had. The first was just a walk-in appointment I made after being recommended the place. Walking into either location from the heat and Chinatown bustle feels like being transported into a calm, chill new world. And once the haircut begins, you can tell immediately that these guys know what they’re doing and do it very well.The haircut consultation was amazing. They take into consideration your face shape, hair tendencies and thickness, lifestyle, and hair issues to try and deliver a haircut that suits all of that. My haircut was with Tim, who was stellar. He gave a ton of great tips and guidance on how to better care for my hair, how to manage and style between haircuts, and even what to tell another stylist/barber if I didn’t go to 12Pell. We tried out some new things that I’m super happy with now. I could not recommend this service enough for anyone who wants to explore different hair style possibilities. There’s not many places that I would trust with the kind of experimentation that I wanted, but after that first haircut, 12Pell had my trust.Even if you just want a haircut, beard trim, etc, I’d highly recommend 12Pell. I don’t write such glowing reviews lightly.As an aside, there’s always that moment after a haircut either the same or next day when you shower and have to retackle your hair to make it look as good as it did right after the haircut. While the haircuts are a bit longer than the typical quick cuts around the area, the work really speaks for itself. The precision/detail are always on point. After an in-depth discussion of what I was looking for in terms of style, maintenance and my hair, Peter did an amazing job taking a lot of weight out of my hair and adding layers. I've been rocking the same style for years so I was interested in knowing what is recommended for my profile from someone who has seen many. I was a walk-in appointment and was taken care of by Marco. From the beginning, he was professional and showed a genuine interest in giving me the exact haircut I wanted and having a good experience at the shop. He texted me a couple days before to confirm the appointment and clarify that it was at the pop-up location. When I entered, he offered me water and spent a good amount of time listening to what I wanted and never once interrupted me. He then offered some suggestions based on his expertise. When he started the haircut, he was very friendly and personable so chatting with him was easy and the conversation flowed naturally. He also never lost focus while cutting hair and showed incredible attention to the details. Overall, it was an incredible experience and I loved the haircut. I attended an event a few days later where a lot of pictures were taken and Marco really pulled through for me. Honestly, these guys are worth so much more than just the hype. They're not just giving haircuts, they're working on a brand that involves bringing their community up with them, and creating a lifestyle that gives their clients a sense of purpose. I had the pleasure of making a consultation appointment with Peter and it was well worth it. He first asked me to explain what I've been doing with my hair my whole life, and what my goals are. Then he described to me the type of hair I have, specifically the qualities that would make certain type of hairstyles good and other styles not so good. He also kept answering all my questions, and would periodically stop throughout the cut to explain his process and also get my feedback. I've had barbers in the past ask me how it looks at the end, but I've never had someone ask me consistently throughout if what they're doing to my hair is in line with what I envisioned. Best part, he told me exactly how I should be styling my hair outside the shop, which is also completely new to me. Often times I find myself not able to recreate the fresh-outta-the-barbershop cut but Peter walked me through exactly the type of products I can use if I wanted to, and how to comb my hair, even down to the detail of which type of comb would be best for my hair. To top it all off, they'll be sending me an email with before and after photos of my cut, along with a written recap of what we talked about in regards to hair maintenance and styling. I also wanted to mention that even though this is the best haircut I've ever had, what I won't forget is how confident and empowered Peter made me feel leaving 12pell. Pros: I've been coming to 12 Pell ever since I moved back to NYC last year and as a man with Asian hair, I can confidently say you'd be hard pressed to find a place that has more knowledge and technique on how to manage unruly straight hair and find the best hairstyles suited for Asian skin and faces, plain and simple. Every one of the barbers here are dedicated to the craft and can tell you everything there is to know about your unique hair and how to best work with it.My barber, Franky, no exception. Most barbers struggle with the unique growth pattern on the back of my neck, but Franky's managed to give me a clean skin fade or taper fade (I switch up on him regularly depending on my mood) every single time. He also does a damn good job keeping the top long, clean and textured the way I like it. Franky listens to your wants, takes into account your face shape and hair type, and will give you real feedback on what's possible and what's not, and has the technique to give you the best cut possible. He's my go-to. Book "Walk-In 3" online if you want to get a cut with him.Cons: I'll only dock a star from this place because for the price point, I definitely think a hair wash and a hotel towel should come standard. But considering the massive amount of popularity 12 Pell's come across, I can understand it's just not feasible with all the volume these guys bring in. Would love to see these guys expand further and build a bigger space that delivers a high-quality experience before and during the cut.read more

I had the pleasure of having Tim cut my hair. There’s a reason why his availability is hard to come by. He was very detailed in explaining what hair fits best for my face shape, what products to use that works well for my dry hair, how to style it, even down to the type of comb I should use. This is more than what I can ask for at any other barbershop. The most underrated part of the consultation has to be the hair resume. It outlines everything that he went over which is extremely helpful because I came from out of town so I don’t have the means to visit NY often. Thinley is one of the most thorough and caring stylists I've ever met. He is very honest and knowledgeable about hair, and he's not afraid to tell you what he thinks would be best for you. I usually have to visit two places due to my unique hair type and the type of styling I'd get. Thinley is good with the scissors and he can do fades. I think he just gave me one of the best fades I've ever had compared to most of the Dominican barbershops I've been in. Mind you, I come from Corona where it's a pre-dominantly Dominican neighborhood so I've had almost every fade you can think of; however, these Dominican barbershops around me can't cut or style Asian hair the same way. If you're wondering where you should go, don't hesitate to come here. I regret not going to Thinley for my first haircut after two years from the pandemic. My haircut already came out the best it possibly could've today, but I'm sure it could've been even better if I had given Thinley more to work with. It was totally my mistake for not finding this place sooner and letting someone else chop off all the hair I grew during this pandemic. I came in for the consultation and cut with Andy and I couldn't be happier with the experience and outcome. Before I came in, Andy had me send him a selfie and asked if I had any hair inspiration to aspire to. I didn't, so he suggested a couple of styles that he thought might work.During the cut, Andy started by asking about my previous cuts, what I liked, what I didn't like. He then took the time to explain the kind of hair I had as well as the shape of my face. Based on these attributes, he explained the kinds of hair styles that would work best. He also took into account my hair routine (no products, infrequent cuts) when offering suggestions. After we agreed on the hair style, Andy started cutting, checking in with me about the length as he went. He solicited feedback as he worked to ensure I was getting the haircut I wanted and took the time to show me the back and sides several times during the cut.He later emailed me notes on the items we had discussed, along with photos of the completed cut so future barbers would have a handy and personalized reference to follow.That was almost three months ago, and while my hair has now grown out, the styling advice he offered continues to be relevant. You will get a good cut if you come here. Don’t worry about getting a bad haircut because from what I’ve seen and experienced you won’t get that.I booked the consultation with scissor cut with Peter. I have a long midpart that was always awkward because of my previous barber but after coming to Peter 3 times it has actually grown out properly each time. It looks nice and the proportions are just how I want them. Peter gave me advice and answered all my questions regarding hair during the process. It’s honestly a great feeling that I don’t have to feel anxious during haircuts anymore because I know Peter got me. Also, If you care about every single little detail, make sure to remind them. People aren’t robots so you can’t expect them to remember every single thing. For example on my sideburns I prefer them to be pointy shaped instead of square shaped and I got them squared off last time. Should’ve reminded them because I’m very picky but it’s okay ! Not a deal breaker or anything because the cut still looked nice. I need to make sure to remind them next time is all. With all of that being said though, it does come out to be pricey (in my opinion, I’m a broke college student aha) scissor cut is $80 with Peter. So if you can afford it, it will be worth it. First time here, I booked with Kevin. Really disappointed in this place considering their reputation as well as price ($45 plus a 10$ tip.) I came in here with a picture to show the barber, making it well known that I wanted something low maintenance and that I've gotten a ton of fades in the past and really liked them, but wasn't looking to get one due to the constant need for another haircut to keep the style up. This had been my first haircut in probably 9 months so my hair was extremely long leaving me with a bunch of options for the first time in along time, as I hate the awkward grow out stage but was able to push through it not seeing many people during the pandemic. The picture I showed had medium length up top, and then a more trimmed side but in no way a fade. I told the barber that I wanted it to be just above the length that my hair begins to stick up because that happens when its cut too short, as well as my cowlick on the crown of my head becoming an issue. Upon 30 seconds of my haircut beginning, I knew he had messed up with whatever guard he used to shave down the bulk of my hair. Within those 30 seconds, I already knew the photo I showed the barber would be impossible to achieve as he cut down way too much. After asking him where this was going, he decides to pull up a picture on his own phone and show me what he's going for. I don't know if he did this to try to make it seem like he knew what he was doing rather than admit he messed up, but it was apparent the photo I showed him had been tossed out the window as he was now showing the same basic haircut that every barber has done for the past 5 years, fade on the sides with length on top. He was able to do the fade well but it was exactly what I made clear I didn't want. The most frustrating part of this is that I chose a highly rated and expensive barber shop so that those months of growing out my hair weren't wasted, but now I'm back to square one.Pictures added of what I showed vs what I received.read more

Went to 12 Pell for the first time to get my first post-quarantine haircut and they did not disappoint! Their website 12pell.com wasn’t working this morning, so that was annoying, but I found that their bookings are made on a third-party website that was fast and user-friendly. I was able to book my barber and prepay for it so I didn’t have to bother with transacting with cards and such while I was there. I was greeted at the door, given a cold bottle of water, and after a temperature check and hand sanitizing, my appointment with Kenny started right on time. I had rode my e-scooter and they put in the back storage area so I didn’t have to worry about it. Cleanliness is a major priority here, and it seemed like there was someone sweeping and cleaning when they weren’t actively cutting hair. There are plastic shields between each chair and of course everyone inside is wearing a mask. Kenny did a great job with a fade, and giving me some tips on styling. I appreciated how he had all his clippers and guards neatly arranged and not just thrown in the drawer. It’s got a Kith vibe with the Nike SB line, apparel, and hair products available for purchase, and is probably more fitting for a Soho or Williamsburg location, but here it is in Chinatown among the $7 haircut barber shops of Pell and Doyers! Don’t expect to pay $7 here though, but do expect professional service and a fresh cut that comes with attention to detail.read more

Probably the most safest place to get a haircut right now with the pandemic going on. Everyone wears a mask and your temperature must be checked before entering. Hands down the best place I've gotten a cut in NYC. Anyone who knows me knows my hair is extremely hard to cut - it's very straight and not pliable. Tim was extremely knowledgeable and had a lot of suggestions. The best part is that he will teach you how to style it .
